Question Identi Plate? Pop-Rivets Originals

Remeber that member that had the factory 'star' type rivets that hold the metal VIN plate to the inside of the drivers door? Does anybody remember who has these?

Thanks,
72longbed

They are called rosette rivets.

Re: Identi Plate? Pop-Rivets Originals

The important thing is that the "Rosette Rivets are different than the ones on my 68. The rivets there are more of a standard design rivet, but with a 5 sided head and not starred out like a Rosette.

You don't need a dremel, just a punch and a drill.

I am assuming here, but I think he meant to "square off" a standard stainless rivet to make it look like a rosette rivet.

Re: Identi Plate? Pop-Rivets Originals

Look at it this way, you need 4 rivets for the job (to make it look right). The dremel is a great idea, BUT can you do it to make MR. Johnny LAW believe it is the correct process. That is why these sell for so much.

Re: Identi Plate? Pop-Rivets Originals

Just bought 4 sets for some of my projects. One was a cab change from rust and the other is just a full out resto and did not want to leave the plate on for blasting, body work and paint. Well worth the small cost. Their was a guy on here awhile ago selling them for $25ea so $50 for a set of 4 is a good deal.

Believe me, those things are hard and do not squeeze evenly. I have enven cut the section out of the door frame of a atruck to try something like this. sometimes it works, sometimes ayou get a mess.

Re: Identi Plate? Pop-Rivets Originals

Yep, done that--pretty easy on a truck. Unfortunately on a blazer or suburban, you can't get behind the b-pillar as it is a closed box. So just pop some out of a junk yard truck and reuse them.
