1972 Orange 50/50 Bar

Well, I'm finally getting around to posting pics of my new Suburban. I got her last month and have mostly resisted the urge to tear her down to pieces. She's in pretty good shape with minor rust. Like to make her a DD.

Someone keep me from doing a frame off! I don't think I can resist. I'd like to paint the frame and do the underside. Plus, the wood floor needs replacing and it may be advantageous to do it all at once.

It's got a crate 350 that needs rebuilding... cyl 6 & 8 have 70lbs & 100lbs of compression and the rest have 140ish. Miles unknown... looks worn. The TH350 runs good but leaks from the pan and shifter boss. The 205 leaks from the speedo unit and the plug. I've already acquired a built 700r4 (Mega Monster) to put in (got a great deal on a unused used one)... I will probably buy the 2" spacer others have used and end up moving the engine about 3 3/4" forward. (I did the homework on that... I figured buying the short shaft didn't make as much sense because the tranny was already rebuilt.)

Anyways, my plan is to get her looking classic/stock just like Zeusflash, Cheyenne10's and other's Burbs. The difference being the color will be Orange & White... like an Orange 50/50 Bar.

Great looking Burb....and thanks for the complement!! These trucks have such classic styling that I've never seen the need for changing much..they just look great. Hard to improve on much in my opinion. I know what you mean about the 50/50 bar color scheme..mY 69 3/4 ton is Hugger Orange and White...one of the best color combos in my book. Have fun with your project and you have found the best place for info,suggestions and general moral support(Suburbans are HUGE projects!)

Yes my project "out of the Blue" is a big one too. Every day its one of the $$ questions!! Too late to turn back now!! It will be worth the wait and work. Still need to convince my wife of that. I think once she gets a sunny eve. cruise she might come around. That color and stance looks refined but tough.

To me, nothing is more fun than a driveable project.

Reap the rewards of your work 1 day at a time by doing doughnuts.

Also, Chevy Orange is one *****in' color.

I've been spending the last month going over the best way to 'clean her up'. The frame off route worries me.... I tore apart a '77 CJ7 down to the frame 3yrs ago and never got her back together. Interests/enthusiasm changed... as well as California smog laws. I'm gonna try to keep her together this time.

I'm guessing that if I 'scrub' the underside as much as possible I'd be a lot closer to painting the frame when I take the wood floor out. Then, when I lift the body to pull the wood I could have great access to cleaning/painting the frame (probably use Por15). Then, I could paint the front end of the frame when I pull the engine/tranny.

Measure twice, cut once. I'm really preplanning before I do anything drastic!

I've spent hours going through the extra wiring the P.O. added! Wires running to the rear and front. Power wires were running everywhere for winches, rear plug-ins, and cigarette lighters! Toggle switch hell! I don't know whats stock under the dash and what's not!

I dont know what it is about these trucks, but both of the ones I owned have had crazy misc. wiring.

The one I have now has snaps installed for what looks like covers made for the inside of the rear glass. Who knows what went on back there!?
