Oil Pressure line broke

Does anyone know if stores still sell the metal oil pressure line that screws into the back of the block and runs to your oil pressure guage? Mine broke off tonight as I was cleaning the engine.

Re: Oil Pressure line broke

plastic might be fine but they do dry out and get very brittle (personal experience) so i wouldnt go with the plastic and you should be able to get the copper or steel line at an auto parts store

Re: Oil Pressure line broke

Is there actual oil that goes through that line or is it just air being pushed?

Oil.
It never happened to me but I do know a guy that claims he broke one with the car running in his 64 Mustang. He said it is a big mess!

Re: Oil Pressure line broke

I ran the nylon line that came with my aftermarket guage and didn't have any problems with it. I switched it out for a metal one that I picked up from Advance for about $12. Most people I've talked to prefer metal over nylon, but it's personal preference. I switched mine because I think the metal looks better.

Re: Oil Pressure line broke

I had a plastic one break and all that oil is under 40-60-psi, sure makes a mess, and lots of smoke.

Re: Oil Pressure line broke

Yep it is oil, I was testing some dashes one day and forgot to hook the oil pressure line back up. Started my truck and began to test a dash or two when I felt my right foot getting wet BIG MESS, but it sure was funny

Re: Oil Pressure line broke

So...is there an electrical sender? You know some kind of feeler on the engine wit some voltage sent to a gauge...like a water temp or fuel level?

Would love to get the oil out of the cab...keep it in the engine.

Re: Oil Pressure line broke

the mechanical gauges are the more accurate way to go. theres no reason to eliminate the and go to electric. so long are your line is in good shape it will not leak

I took a good look and it appears to be original. So 39 years. Not bad

Mine is long enough to cut off and redo the end.
