Hello all! Back again (it's addictive, ain't it?).

I'm looking for an indicator plate (if that's what ya call it) that would work with the new 700R4 tanny I'm installing. The present one is the factory auto version for TH350/400.

Does anybody make such an animal?

Lokar makes a nice in the dash setup that is electronic. It looks pretty cool but I think its upwards of $100. And then you would have to find somewhere to mount it. But I think I might just go this route when I do my converstion.

Has or does anyone use this product?

I looked on Yogi's website. I couldn't find the Lokar digital indicator - it wasn't really what I was looking for anyway.

Is there not some aftermarket available column mount indicator available? What I'm looking for is the little plexiglas plate etched with the "right" gear selections in a housing similar to stock that mounts on the column ala OEM style.

Anybody?

I want one, too. I can get all the gears with the shifter, but 1,2 and 3 hit between the lows now.

Doubt you will find either. About the closest your going to get will be IDIDIT. They may have something for you.

I have heard of ppl using polish on the stock piece untill the numbers come off, then putting there own on there.

Mine lines up fine in P, R, N and D, but as you would expect is a little off for the 3 lower gears, but I can get all 4.

Yeah, I guess I'm just a perfectionist (although ya wouldn't know it to look in my garage LOL).

I know that it'll work. And I realize that it'll spend most of it's time in overdrive. I was just trying to see if anyone else had "solved" the detent issue.

I have a column shift in my monte if i put my tranny into O.D. the indicator is right in between "D" an "N"

Detents are solely from the tranny, not the shifter. the only thing the shifter does is insist on pulling the lever to get into reverse and park, and out of park. The standard 3 speed auto column has the same travel as the 4 speed. For indicator, get one out of a GM station wagon, some are d2, d1,2 1 some are od, d, 2,1. These plastic ones are easily modified to set onto your column, you can make your own pointer.

Okay then, my linkage must be f*cked up somehow...because while P lines up, it has a HUGE drop from P to R (it lines up on N), and then lines up about 1 off from there (N lines up on D, OD lines up on L2, 3 lines up on L1, and L2 lines up just to the right of L1. The exhaust currently interferes with shifting to L1).

It makes me with I had a high-hump cab so I could toss a Truck Megashifter in there. From the look of it, with a low-hump cab, it'd be WAY low...

Or maybe a Lokar...heh...

Jeff,

If I remember right the ididit indicator set is mounted with an adhesive strip. you can line it up to match your detents before you permanently attach it.

You do realize that you can loosen the nut on the rod clevis where the shift rod attaches to the shift arm off of the column. Then slide it up or down to align where the pointer sets in relation to the indicator. I used to have to slide mine down every few months as the cab mounts rusted away on my '77 and the body got closer to the ground, so I could get it in drive without pulling back on the lever. Gravity sucks sometimes. If you align neutral the others should line up close. at least your shift lever will be in the right place in relation to the plate in the column that restricts reverse, park ect.

The column that I have in now (not the tilt out of the '72) must be messed up somehow. I think that the column that's in there now is out of a 70's or 80's truck, but it's definitely NOT a '67 to '72 item.

Park is not hard to "find" but sometimes is hard to keep there. Drive IS hard to find though. The thing wants to either go into N or L2 easy, but not into D.

The whole thing is easy to work back and forth into any gear from under the hood, but not from in the cab.

One of my projects for today is to try to get it "fixed". I don't think that I'll have time to put in the tilt column today - but who knows? It might even be easier to just put the tilt column in.

Too many projects, not enough time.

Okay, I didn't get the shift linkage adjusted like I want it (so sue me - just kidding

). But I did get the tilt column out of the '72 cleaned up.

Apparently it does have some sort of detent that requires the shifter to be pulled back towards you to get it out of park and little "stops" (for lack of the correct term) for each gear.

So, is there a company that makes a new detent plate (or whatever ya call it) to put into the column for use with an overdrive tranny (extra gear ya know!

)?

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a little late on this one, but I have a local guy who makes the indicators for our trucks w/ a 700r4. He also rebuilt my tilt column and modified the neutral saftey switch to work and fit correctly around the brake assembly. He also carries his own version of billet steering column accessories and cruise switches.
