Plans for a HAULER,this will happen someday.

I want to pull a trailer all over this great country and I think I have the basis for an adequate tow vehicle.I'm a cheap so-and-so and I think long and hard before I spend.
>>Currently thinking a 383 (stroked 350) or a 400 small block with a NV 4500 5spd,and keep my 3.73 gears but up-grade to trac-lock. Discs in front might be nice but I haven't yet seen an 8-lug conversion kit.

hard to beat the Duramax/Allison combo. I drive one everyday and pull a big trailer. You could always just drop the Duramax/Allison in your old truck. Would make a *****in' old hauler.

you do enough haulin and scrapping, grab the front end off a 73 - 87 ugly 3/4 ton.

DuraMax/6spd manual would be an excellent hiway-hauler.It would be easier,cheaper,and generally more practical to swap a Cummins.And,you`ll get alot better fuel economy.

Haven't met a d-jap yet that would get better mpg than a 12V........Actually, I don't know anyone with one in a Chevy that does get better fuel economy than a Cummins in a Dodge. IMO, the D-max's around here stink mpg wise. Some of the numbers I've been told would make me want an 8.1 with today prices of diesel.

As far as a 6spd behind a D-jap, DON'T DO IT..........I drove one with a 6spd, and I swear it almost felt like I had a 6.2 under the hood. If your going to swap in a Duramax, go with the Allison. I don't like auto's, but the Allison is a good tranny and works great behind a D-max.

Using an Allison opens up a huge new can of worms as if swapping a Dmax ain`t enough of a headache.He wants a hiway rig.Get it up to speed and go,true lock-up,and no shifting.

evey one and there brother is doing it one time i was go to go in each state in look for old cars trucks vans and parts to mandy are doing thhat
