Air Cleaner: TBI vs. Carb

Are the late 80's/early 90's TBI air cleaners interchangeable with a carb one? I know later on they had a different bolt setup, but are the early ones with the single stud the same size in terms of the bottom opening, 5 1/8" or whatever an edelbrock carb is? Thanks!
