intermittent wiper switch
My wiper switch on my 67 has been getting ready to go out for the last year or so. I'd like to know if there is a switch out there that I could put in its place with an intermittent setting?
I'm sure I could get some kind of add on device, from the local parts place. But it shure would be cool if I could just get a switch that would do it all. Any ideas? Thanks Frank

Only way to go intermittent is with an aftermarket switch. Newer trucks use a different mounting and park to the wrong side. I went with a Ford motor, and mazda controller, have variable intermittent, pull lever for wash and 2 wipes, push for 1 wipe. The really best thing is not having to reach for the dash, as I travel in snow country a lot.

I noticed that the wiper switch on the early 80's Jeep CJ 5 and CJ7 are similar to ours in that they are simply a post coming out of the dash with a twist knob. Twist it to the right and there are two speeds, twist it to the left and it is intermittent. I'm heading to the junk yard to pick one up and see how similar the wiring is - I'll let you know if it works!

I think all the AMC vehicles were like that from that ara. As a child we had an '82 Eagle wagon...and it was just as you described the Jeep one.
Just another vehicle to add on the junkyard search. |

My daily driver 88 FOrd f150 has a switch that I am going to try to swap into my 69 dash. I guess I could get a wiper motor too and wire it up

I had asked about an Int. wiper switch a couple months ago. At that time a member was working on one. It sounded like it was getting close to being released. Im not sure , but I think it might have been "church" .
Anyone have any info?

I promise - its coming soon!! My electrical engineer just changed jobs and has not had much time too "play" lately. I'll keep you posted though. I think the Jeep switch sounds like it might work as well as the Ford switch. The only thing is, are they wired like a Chevy breaking the (-) instead of the (+). Keep us posted the those switches!!

Some Ford and Mazda wiper motors are laid out just like ours, and install where ours go with some trimming of the 'can' the wiper goes in, and the swapping of the crank end, which requires making the chevy crank hole bigger. THen this wiper allows intermittent operation. Here is my wiring diagram for the wiper switch.

Thanks guys it looks like we're getting some place on this question. So does anyone know what model of veichle I could pull one of the above mentioned switches out of. My wife and father in law are going by the big parts yard tommorow and I can see if they can have them pull one out for me and I'll give it a shot.

Mazda or Fords for the switches. There are actually 4 different switches. Look for the one that has the variable delay twist. there is also one for fixed delay one for no delay, and another variable delay one that is strange
The picture above shows the lever assemble, with lights on left, wipers on right, from a Mazda. The cover is off and of course the steering wheel. The column is a combination of a van tilt and a caddilac telescope column, shifting a 200R4. I have done the full wiring schematic for the lights and cruize, also. This way you get lights on/off at column, pull lever for daytime high beam flash. on wipers, pull for wash and 2 wipes, push for 1 wipe, or turn for intermittent. I set up the cruize set button to kill the tail lights, to thank truckers that flash me back in front of them (this is a panel) All you 67-72 prima donnas don't seem to recognize that the '66 is virtually identical to the 67-72's but with better looking sheet metal (!) Same suspension, driveline, wiring, etc. And no smog, and $30 for life to register, no expiration in Washington state. The law just happened to have no teeth for using truck as a daily driver.
