1st Tank of Gas

Well I just filled up the tank again 2nd time @ 3.01 / gallon
so the 1st tank the ol beast got 9.5 MPG ( most in-town )
and I know I can improve on that , the idle is too high , have no idea what
the plugs look like or where the timing is at
so after plugs(if needed) and adj. ( carb & timing ) I'll add an ignitor to the distributor
and a bit down the road maybe a 3" single exhaust w/small tube headers
its got a Q-jet so I gotta keep my foot out of it
anybody else give a rip about fuel economy ?

Re: 1st Tank of Gas

Yeah. I only own gas hogs. Z71 and the 67. I also travel a lot. The 67 gets 13 city. Haven't tried highway recently, but I'd expect 15-16 with the 700R4. My only saving grace is I live 14 miles round trip from work and all the stores and stuff I would need to shop at are right down the road.

The way I figure it. When I get my truck running. It will cost me around $20 just to drive to work round trip.

Not really, wellllllll at least not enough to drive a "Hybrid"
I figure I will pay what they charge for it as long as I can then brew my own if I can. After that it will be "dirt nap" time for me.I don't really have a desire to live in a time where I can't enjoy some of the things I've lived my life around.

Re: 1st Tank of Gas

Just enough. My best recorded milage (since I got the speedo/odometer working for the first time since i've had the truck a month ago) on a 250 mile round trip was 15 mpg, that includes both city/highway combined. Keep in mind I have a well-worn out 305 with a jurry-rigged 2bbl carb under the hood.

So even I'm optimistic that it could be better.

Re: 1st Tank of Gas

I just got my truck last week, its got a 350 350 combo, and im tryin to figure out the milage. Just filled the nice 30 gal underbed tank a few days ago, and ive gone about a hundred miles and it just hit the full line, it started way up there. Sry bout the highjack, but what fuel do u guys run? The guy i bought it from said put premium in it, i put plus. It cost me 73.27 just to do that, and i work 8 hours a week cause a school, so its a little tight. Ill get back on the mpg when i fill it up next time....

Re: 1st Tank of Gas

my truck gets the best mileage...hasn't cost me a dime in gas so far! oh yeah, it's torn apart! My HEMI Ram was getting 14-16 so I figured it wouldn't hurt to sell it and buy a classic...now I drive a Camry to work and get 28-30mpg for now...

Re: 1st Tank of Gas

My '07 4X4 extended cab only gets around 13-14 mpg - I fill up every other day. But work pays the gas, so it's not so bad.

Re: 1st Tank of Gas

Before my motor went, I was hitting around 12 mpg with about 75% highway driving. I'm not too bothered by it, most new trucks don't get good enough mpg to justify the extra payments per year. I'd rather keep my golden oldy.

Re: 1st Tank of Gas

2nd tank 10.86 getting better , all I've done (so far) is put on radial tires
and lowered the idle speed
needs lots more but life gets in the way , I think the trans is slipping a bit
considering rebuilding it and adding o/d or swapping a 4speed o/d trans
not sure if I need o/d if I'm running 3.07 gears
I'll get it checked before I start throwing $ at it
