Inline six adding Power Brakes
I have a 1971 C-10 with Manuel Brakes. I am adding Power Brakes and have a question about where is the vacuum line connection on the manifold. If any one has a picture of which fitting the line connects too.
Thank You for your assist in this!

Re: Inline six adding Power Brakes
My 292 has been fitted with power brakes and the vacuum line runs to the intake, check out the pic. I am going back to senor manuel brakes though, taking the 'stock/original' route with my truck. Plus I ordered the wrong stainless brake lines. duh...

Re: Inline six adding Power Brakes
Yep. My truck was a 350 with P/Brakes. I put the 250cid in it and hooked up the Vacuum line in the same place as pictured

Re: Inline six adding Power Brakes
You'll need either a power brake air cleaner or a smaller aftermarket air cleaner too. The stock air cleaner will hit the master cylinder once you install the booster. Factory inline 6 trucks with power brakes had an offset air cleaner assembly that placed the unit over the right side of the engine. I can try and find a pic of my 292 air cleaner if you need clarification.

Is the 292 and 250 air cleaner the same, meaning can I use a 292 off set air cleaner on my 250 in-line. And I would like to see a pic if possible. Thank You

Re: Inline six adding Power Brakes
250 or 292 should be the same setup. The pic below shows an oil bath setup, but the paper element set up is the same

Re: Inline six adding Power Brakes
I'm planning on doing the same thing with my 6cyl C10, if you find an aftermarket air cleaner with the correct diameter base for a 1bbl I'd like to hear where you got it. I found one on ebay once but never found it again.

Re: Inline six adding Power Brakes
I just used one that I found @ autozone. Being a cheap chinese thing - I had to "de-burr" the horn on the air cleaner to get it to fit right.

Here is a picture of mine off a 292. Notice how I took great pains to age it so it looks really old and original? You can also see the vacuum hose screwed into the inlet manifold too.

Re: Inline six adding Power Brakes
Make sure you get the support rod and threaded rod for air cleaner housing (as shown in TX's pic) and the air horn that sits on carb. My pic is an oil bath. Tx's is a paper element. The paper element is more common, but way less cool.

Re: Inline six adding Power Brakes
Very cool, albeit weird looking setup.
I'm adding power brakes to my '67, but it's running a clifford intake and a four bbl holley. I know I'm going to have clearance issues with the air cleaner as well. |

I think the oil bath cleaner has better visual appeal and old school cache, and that one frank has for sale looks to be in good shape. The paper is far less hassle however.

Re: Inline six adding Power Brakes
Hey Kevin,
I have 292 in my 66 that came from a school bus and I have been trying to find the original setup for a 292 option for 66. Is yours like the original from the factory? Also what type of carb do you have? Thanks! Rihard |
