cab interchange?

Do all cabs from 67-72 Chevy and GMC interchange with one another?

I have a 67 4x4 with a very rust cab. I see a few for sale but want to make sure they would be workable.

I assume I would want 67-68 for emergency brake simularity.

4x4's use a high hump transmission tunnel but a low hump could be cut and modified.

I have heard that 4x4's have a different "doghouse" which I believe is the front clip. Does this affect the cowl in any way?

Please tell me what works and what will not.

I've never quite understood the 'doghouse' term myself, I always thought they were talking about the firewall where it curves in. Either way, as far as I know, the cab (and front clip) are 100% the same with the exception of the high hump with an extra hole.
Any 67 - 72 cab, 1/2 ton through one ton, will work, with the floor board posibly needing cut. if you get a 69 and up, then you'll have E-brake mods... quick and easy, keep the foot pedal with the new cab and the 69 up cable. If you get a 71 - 72, then you'll have a cable throttle, which, is an upgrade over the throttle rod.

Usually the engine cover in a van or motorhome is referred to as a "doghouse". Maybe when people refer to it in "our" trucks, they are talking about the hump in the floor.??

I take a cruise in my truck when my wife`s mad at me.I figured that`s where the doghouse name came from.

Yep, I agree with that.

I have a low hump cab I'm going to be putting on my 72 4x4.
I have thought about cutting out the floor and welding in a "flange", (cut out of my original cab), so I can bolt in the high hump just like stock.
Then again I've thought about just sitting the cab on the frame and modifing the required areas.

Anybody have first hand experience with a manual trans, (sm465 or NV4500), 4x4 and low hump clearance? What all and how much would have to be modified?
