Parts store guru question
I have been looking for the right carrier bearing and I'm having no luck with any of the usual resources from NAPA/AZ/Oreilly. They all show the same PN carrier bearing and it doesn't match what I have. I also checked some of the site vendors and I'm not seeing anything there.
I've done a few carrier bearings on 1/2 ton trucks and I've never ran across the type I have now. Ususally it is the 2 bolt flat carrier or the light duty small type. Did the BBC trucks come with a 3/4 ton part? Of course, no one has the 3/4 ton part in stock for me to compare. The pn that keeps coming up is HB88107A. The bearing inside dia is correct (1.378), but the carrier is totally different. Here's some pix if that helps.

Re: Parts store guru question
You might try a driveline shop.

Re: Parts store guru question
I have that same type on my 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. The 1/2 ton is a four speed and the 3/4 ton is an automatic, both are 2WDs. I am about 99% sure that both are the original carrier bearings. I have been wondering if any one else had this type because all I ever see or hear about on this site are the lighter duty ones. I haven't seen anybody complaining about this style carrier bearing so maybe they are a lot more durable than the other style.

Re: Parts store guru question
Thanks truckdude, parts america is one place I didn't look, I like the way it gives you measurements for the whole assambly and not just the shaft size. I'll have to go measure what I've got and see if it matches.

Re: Parts store guru question
Close, but not quite the same. The distance between the x-member mounting bolts is just shy of 6 inches and there are 4 bolts instead of 2. It may be driveline shop time. Thanks for all the help so far.

Re: Parts store guru question
It's definitely different that any of the ones I've seen before. The truck is a factory coil rear and the riveted braket that holds the bearing to the x-member appears to be original and has only one bolt pattern with 4 holes. If I wasn't driving it everyday right now, I'd just pull it apart and search some driveline shops with it in my hands. It's not too beat up or rough, thankfully. I just figured I'd replace it while I was in there doing the u-joints.

Re: Parts store guru question
that's the style my one ton had, it's not made any more. I just went to a drive shaft shop and they gave me one that is dirt cheep and beefy as hell. I did have to take some flat stck, bolt it to the X-member and then botl the bearing to it, but it all works great with no vibrations or anything.

Re: Parts store guru question
Cool, thanks for the info LM. I wondered if I was dealing with an updated/discontinued part type issue.
