I'm not going to get upset !
guy's is or has anyone else had trouble getting the line's and gap's clean on these truck's or am I beating a dead horse ?
let me explain , my truck has repro rocker panel's , partial cab corner's , and a repro tailgate , the rest of the truck is original sheetmetal to this truck , with the exception of the tailgate it is all the original part's that I am having trouble with !! I am used to working on 1967 1968 1969 camaros and you want the gap's and line's good on those also but this truck is driving me crazy !! #1 the door's won't line up at the cab rocker and fender area's #2 the grill did not want to align with the fender's #3 put the hood on (ORIGINAL HOOD FOR THIS TRUCK) and it is impossible to align it and get a even gap all the way around , the door's I have already fixed by cutting away at the tight space's and adding metal to the wider gap's , on the hood I am going to have to weld metal onto the front corner's right hand one especially to get the gap right !!! this is eating up a lot of time , I'm not gonna get upset ! I'm not gonna get upset !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! let's then talk about blocking all this stuff out !!! this stuff is ALL wavy every part , and another thing this truck has never been painted before I have it all stripped and it's never had any work at all this will be it's first paintjob , I'll take some more pic's later ,,, ok I'm done .

Re: I'm not going to get upset !
It was made in 1967 by GM, and it's a truck. Now you have three reasons why the panels don't fit worth a chit. In 1967 a truck was a truck. It was used as a tractor with a cab, and GM built them that way. They didn't have to worry about the additional expense of proper panel fitment because the majority of their customers could care less.
Good luck with it, and keep us posted on your progress....

Re: I'm not going to get upset !
Welcome to the world of truck restorations...they were intended to be work vehicles so I suspect that is why they were never perfect, even from the factory. In addition they probably got the worst abuse from being heavily loaded and driven. It sounds like you are doing all the same things that most quality restoration guys do once they have exhausted all the shimming and adjusting capabilities from the original parts.

Re: I'm not going to get upset !
You have to decide if all these even gaps are worth the effort to you. As stated they weren't perfect as new so why should they be now? It's personal preference that's all. I intend to drive mine not show it. Unless some gaps are way way off I won't be bothering them. I have all original sheet metal also.

I've spent countless hours ligning up doors and fenders. Got any pictures that can show your problems?

Re: I'm not going to get upset !
Did you align the door before you put in the repo rocker panel? When I replaced mine I made sure the door was right first then welded in the rockers to match, then did the front. The doors are the critical starting point and aligned with the cab first then everything is lined up in relation to the doors.

Look at some of Rokcrawln's threads, he uses innovative ways to make the gaps look good.

Re: I'm not going to get upset !
Dark colors = less gap visibility but more panel prep. Light colors = more gap visibility but less panel prep. PICK YOUR POISON! Yes, perfectionism IS a disease...at least according to wife...LOL!

truck will be black with white bumper's and grill trim white stock hubcap's , it will look like the pic in my avatar ,
yes I tryed to align the door's before I put the rocker's in but it was difficult , let me see if I can take some pic's , my pass side is acceptable now driver's side is not ,
