700R4 flywheel
OK, so I've been riding around with my new 700R4 transmission. Its adjusted properly and everything works fine. It down shifts when I floor it, so apparently it has the ability to downshift a lot
 I posted a couple days ago, saying that I was disappointed with my top speed and that got me thinking about the flywheel. My old man read somewhere that 700R4's use a different flywheel from... well, everything else. The flywheel I'm using, though, is from my TH350 and it bolted right up. No problemo. I DID get a chance to look at a 700R4 flywheel that was on a Camaro, and it was significantly smaller as far as diameter is concerned. So, could the size of the diameter of a flywheel affect speed? Are you really supposed to use a certain flywheel for the 700R4? I used my old flywheel, because I didn't think the starter would make contact with the smaller, Camaro flywheel. I'm starting to wonder if that flywheel came off of a V6 or something. Anybody know much about Camaros, V6's, and 700R4 flywheels?

if the converter bolts up, and the stater hits it only when needed, and you have no vibration problem, then you're OK... it'll do nothing to the top speed at all.

How does your top speed compare to the old trans when you stay out of the OD? The .7 OD may be removing the required torque it took to get the ol' sheet steel cinderblock to cut through the air at top speed. You ARE losing 30% of your torque when in overdrive.
Flywheel can only affect the acceleration of your motor, but top speed will be at a consistant engine RPM. Herb |

Flywheel doesn't make any difference. I'd bet that your speedometer is reading wrong due to not having the right speedo gear set in your 700 for the tires and rear end ratio of your truck.

My speedo doesn't work at all, because there is no "drive gear" located inside of the transmission to send the signal. I was having someone clock me with their speedo (which is set correctly).
Come to think of it, I never wired up a switch to kill the OD for when I did not want it on. Maybe that is my problem.
