Re: Well I learned something today.....

you gotta read the inside panel for the settings better if it has a setting chart. that first pic looks pretty gasless. are you tacking and then hammering and dollying. because that prevents warpage(i learns that one the hard way). looks good enough for a skim coat of bondo imho. just find scrap and have fun with that first.

Hmmm what should the gas regulator be set at? I thought I read it should be set at 15-20. I've got it set at 20 so maybe I need to increase it a bit?

Re: Well I learned something today.....

Wellllll....
It looks OK for first efforts...
I'm like the others, I'll start with tacks, go all the way 'round, then start filling. I found that you can't really run much of a bead on sheet without warping. So, I try to keep my beads (after all the tacking) about 1/4" or so. And, the more you grind, the thinner (and harder to weld) the metal gets. Practice makes perfect? Yeah, right. Whoever said that never tried to weld sheet on a rustbucket.

Re: Well I learned something today.....

I just recieved the May copy of Custom Classic Trucks and they have a pretty extensive Tech article about Mig welding for dummies like me! The source is the Miller welding Co. So don't give up yet help is on the way.
Always remember set up and prep are the two most important parts of any project.
