my muffler exploldeing i dont have pictures yet but i was trying to start my truck today and it just kept spining over finally caught and started and blew the muffler apart on the passager side scare the crap out of me man it was loud

Yeah,when we were young punks (me and friends) we used to turn off the key for a few seconds while going along and then when you turn it back on you could scare the p&%^ out of the guy next to you.Same principle,but I don't remember ever blowing up a muffler.

We used to do the same thing with the company flatbed dump truck we had. People on bicycles were the most fun. That was in my younger days. It will scare the pee out of you if your not expecting it.

I`ve done it,too.AND,I did blow up a muffler doing it.I left a new years party when I lived in Stuart,Florida and saw a buddy from the party up ahead.So,I came up on him and,"POW!!!".Then it was,"BLAB BLABBA BLABBA BLAB BLAB",coming out of one side.I was leaving the next day for Maryland and had to listen to that all the way up the road and be sure to let up when I saw a Trooper.Haven`t done it since

It works cool with glasspacks or side pipes! I had a 59 Chevy truck with sidepipes (it looked cool back then!) I would kill the truck rolling down the road and turn the key back on, and a flame about 4 ft long would come out of the sidepipes along with bomb exploding sound!! Glasspacks and sidepipes (just really long glasspacks) will not blow up or out so you can do it regularly for days at a time (ask me how I know!) without hurt the mufflers.

Before any of yous try this also know that its very dangerous. When you kill the engine you lose your power steering and power brakes until the engine is turned back on. If you are really dumb and turn the key all the way your steering wheel will lock on most vehicles.

the steering wheel on the older trucks will not lock (unless a later coulmn was installed) but yes it is dangerous

Don't forget to pump the gas pedal repeatedly after you shut the key off. Then, turn the ignition back to on.. You have a better chance of blowing up your muffler if you do so. I highly recommend not doing this... it seems like it could end in a major catastrophy.

I don't have power steering, power brakes, or newer column. So I am still smart when I do that right?

That's funny,my ps,and power brakes work just fine even though there is no spark to the plugs momentarily.

The truck I was driving had manual steering & brakes and non-locking ignition(`69).The pipes came out in front of rear tires and the truck was lifted w/37" tires.So the pipes were about at window height on a car.Pretty common thing to do to someone.That`s where the danger comes in (called a whippin`).The mufflers were Walker turbos.It`s true,the bullet cased glasspacks can take it.

I just turned 30 and I'm still stupid so I will say this. Do it at your own risk (to yourself and your truck) be careful and if ya have a hard time driving in the first place don't tryit.

.I just can`t afford new mufflers and wouldn`t want to hastle with getting a truck in the shop.Just to dang busy.I`m still stupid enough to do it.Age won`t change that on me.But!!Age does give you enough common sense to wait until you have the time and cash to fix it

just be carefull. it can and DOES destroy old timing gears. especially the original cam gear with the plastic teeth.

my truck's original 250 with a manual choke, 4 speed, and timing gears was great! hehehe

I detonated both my mufflers a couple weeks ago. The distrubutor adavnce siezed up while I was trying to come up to speed on the freeway. Split them buggers from stem to stern. $400 repair bill, 90 miles from home, but tormenting the people in Malibu was priceless
