Re: Does anybody have AirRides rear trailing arm kit?

at ride hight on a stock setup u have no pinion problems.. and ART using panhard bar and will still have some side to side movement.. get a trailing arm crossmember and a ccp notch and u have the same set up... i have no problems w/ mine at all and i used a wats link to center rear end

It's nice stuff..... just not for everyone that's all. It will work for many guys that only have wrenches & want to 'do it themselves'.

More parts for these trucks = more options too.

Re: Does anybody have AirRides rear trailing arm kit?

I don't think it's fair to make the statement that "with a trailing arm crossmember and a CCP notch you have the same thing". There are some definite differences... besides price! True, it's not for everybody's budget, but a quality piece and an ecxeptional design nonetheless. As for the "short" panhard bar... lateral movement is not dramatic... a longer bar will yield less lateral movement, but .25" less is not that much. As for pinion angle... on a factory set-up that has been dropped close to 6" it is IDEAL to use a shim to correct pinion angle... Air Ride has compensated for this in their trailing arm design.

With your experience how much travel in the suspension yields a 1/4" in lateral movement? 2",4" , Full inflate to full deflate? IMO A longer bar would help in ride quality also.

Long bars add stability because they dont change angles as quickly as a short one when driving. A short bar will jerk your tires out from under you when you hit dips or hit or let off the gas real quick.

try again, you have more sidewall flex than the panhard bar will give you.

ART's design is cool, and for you guys who want a performance air suspension that doesnt lay on the ground, its perfect.

Re: Does anybody have AirRides rear trailing arm kit?

your talking about the axle shifting over causing the truck to act funny....when you may only get .25 inch of side to side travel at the most because of the panhard. Im just saying this isnt a big deal because you're gunna have .25 or more inches of side to side because of sidewall flex in the tires.

I read over all your responses and you seem to not like the ART kit because of the price and are trying to find ways to downsell it on technical grounds, but your arguements are insignifigant.

I agree, if you are into it just for the wow factor like your self then they are insignificant.

Yes of course your side wall will absorb the lateral movement, even if it is or isn't .25 of an inch, thats the problem! A longer bar is ALWAYS better, no other way around it.

and by the way ART is top notch in my opinion compared to the others.

Re: Does anybody have AirRides rear trailing arm kit?

guys, guys, it depends on what you want out of your vehicle. Drag racers want ladder bars or 4 links, retro guys want leafs and slapper bars. 67-72 crowd want this setup. Look at the nascar cars, they use this kind of setup.
If this brand isnt for you, whether it be price or design, dont buy it. If it sucked, it wouldnt sell.

This is true, but they use this set-up for a reason: the rules. If it were possible to utilize a more optimal set-up, they would discard these trailing arm set-ups w/o hesitation.

IMO, there are worse suspensions NASCAR could be required to use..... these are simple & work well in that environment.

Re: Does anybody have AirRides rear trailing arm kit?

Don't bail out yet BigTruckDriver!

It's OK to have an opinion... and your opinion in regards to the longer parnhard bar is spot on. The longer the bar is, the less lateral deflection. Sometimes a bar can be "long enough" to serve its purpose... and there would be no true need to make it longer. The average suspension travel under ordinary driving conditions would be around 3". Within this range of travel, the lateral deflection experienced would be negligible with this length of bar. It's also important to remember that this piece is designed to be a bolt-on production piece that the average joe can slam on his truck with fairly little hassle. All suspension systems have a compromise somewhere... it is impossible to obtain a suspension configuration that has optimum results in EVERY aspect... it's always a give and take.

Let's make sure we all have fun, and respect others opinions while doing so. Let's make sure we don't take offense to others comments. it's very rare that somebody tries to intentionally offend anybody on here.

Re: Does anybody have AirRides rear trailing arm kit?

What's that bar that goes across and connects to the differential and connects to the frame? I need to order bushing for it on my stock one.
