Hasnt been started for a while

well im getting ready to start my build-up, but it has been setting out in the field for about 4 years without being ran once. my question is what should i clean out and check before run it. Just clean out the carb, plugs, air filter and check fluids?

After 4 years, I would get all the bad gas out of the fuel tank.

Yes, you'll want to take the carb off and empty it, maybe spray out the passages you can get to with cleaner. Pull out the metering screws (screw them all the way in first, counting the turns so you can put them back EXACTLY the same). With those screws out, squirt the carb cleaner using the little red tube into the holes. That'll clear the idle passages.
If it's me, I would pull all the plugs (number the wires with masking tape), squirt a little WD40 in each cylinder, and spin the motor with a fresh battery. Do this with the carb off, and a rubber hose on the fuel line into a can. Then put a couple of fresh gallons in the tank...
Soon as it starts, let it run a couple of minutes, then change the oil.

i'd just squirt a little marvel mystery oil in the cylinders put a battery in a couple gallons of fresh gas and start it up// a good idea check in the air filter for bugs and mice

Pressure lube the bearings and top end with a dizzy style oil pump drive before firing it up too. Roll it over a couple of times while doing this to make sure you get oil to everything. It would be good to do this after you have pulled the plugs and put the Mystery oil in the cylinders.

If this truck has been sitting out in a field w/ cold, rain or snow for 4 years or so I would try to turn the motor over by hand before hitting the starter switch. It,s better to gently loosen up a motor rather than find that your rings have rusted themselves to the cylinder walls and having something break. As already stated, squirt some Marvel Mystery Oil into the plug holes and let it do it's magic for at least 24 hrs. before trying to turn motor over.

might be a good idea to check the wiring under the dash to make sure there isnt any suprizes waiting for you and check all the under hood wiring aswell, wouldnt want something to arch into a fire or anything
