Crack at door hinge
Anyone ever this problem drivers door top hinge crack? Ever time I open door I see the crack give just a little bit. Thinking about just running a bead with a welder anyone ever try this? Any idea or suggestions..... Thanks

Common problem on our trucks. Welding bead on sheetmetal will not help. Best bet is either backplating or replacing door. Sorry but that's reality~~~~Huck

We have welded several doors with the cracks and have not had one weld fail in any of the doors. Maybe we have not seen enough time go by, but some of the welds are over 10 years old. We always sand blast the area prior to welding and if the material looks good after blasting and the crack width is 1/8" or less we simply weld with a wire welder.
Some of our doors have rust and are cracked and those we plate with 18 gage sheet metal. This has been our experience for what it is worth. Jim

I had this problem on mine,it seemed to be from the door being "sprung"[opened too far maybe from backing into something] I welded the crack in place to try and fix the problem,but the weld warped the door and I had to put shims under the bottom hinge to get the door to shut. When I restored the truck I took the door off,straighten the spot and rewelded it and I have had no problems

Make sure the outer is securely plug welded to the structure behind it. Repair any bad spot welds and add a few new ones if need. It'll help alot.
