68 Chevy - Front Suspension Rebuild - HELP!

Relatively new here and tearing into my 68. Its dropped 3.5 up front with a dropped spindle and 1 inch shorter coil from McGaughy's. Also conversion to disc brakes. I'm snapping her all back together, but need some help on torque specs.

Idler, Pitman, Tie Rod Ends, Center shaft, etc.

ALso, if this isn't super precise, but in the ball park, can I expect problems down the road? I read my Chilton's for 1979 trucks, and its takcing about # 18 regular nuts, factory crimped nuts and tightening, loosening, etc. My new MOOG parts came with Castle Nuts. Getting confused and I need someone to help me with the facts!

Thanks in advance.

Re: 68 Chevy - Front Suspension Rebuild - HELP!

Couple of quick questions. What year is the disc set-up from? What parts do you need the torque specs from?
When you torque a castle nut you take it to the setting and then tighten it until the opening for the cotter pin is clear.
After a part is torqued, you never loosen it to add a locking device unless the manufacturer expressly tells you to do that. PM me with the info that you need. Also it might be a good idea to purchase a good copy of the specific year factory assembly manual and shop manual. Having those resourcesat your fingertips is a real time saver. Lane

Re: 68 Chevy - Front Suspension Rebuild - HELP!

Here are the torque specs you asked for:

C10 , C20/30

Upper ball joint 70 / 120
Lower ball joint 120 / 215
Tie rod ball joint nut 30 / 50
Tie rod clamp 132 in# / 132 in#
Idler arm mounting bolts 30 / 30
Idler arm to relay rod 60 / 60
Pitman Arm 60 / 60
Pitman arm to selector shaft 125 / 125

All values are in foot pounds unless noted.
Hope this helps, Lane
