Need Help with Lowering!! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am wondering if you can put lowering spindles on my truck since i have drums. It said on the Early Classic website something about it requiring disc brakes, but i need to know if i can still do it. If not should i just go with 2-3 lowering coils. Has any of you done just the coils? Does it mess up the ride any? Thanks

With drop spindles you have to convert to disc. Drop springs 2" would be ok, if you go 3" you won't be able to align it and you will get bump steer. 3" spring produces too much negative camber. Good luck

Another problem with 3" dropped springs is that every time you jack the truck up, the springs fall out!

Is it true though, that if you run a 3" lowered shock, that it keeps the arms together enough that the spring won't fall out?

They also make a stop that bolts on the bottom of the upper a-arm that limits how far it drops so the spring won't fall out.

I got mine when I ordered my original kit for my 67 waaay back in 90. The stop is basically a snubber like for a traction bar (although they are urethane)so anything similar should limit travel the same, you just might need to adjust the overall length. I'll jack it up & get exact measurement of length asap if wanted. You might try energy suspension but the ones I have came from the Drop Shop,Chino Ca.

Such a huuuuuuge improvement...it's not even funny...

There were two reasons my grandpa hated my truck when he got it (he must've gotten a steal on it, it was a '70 purchased in laaaate '70 when the '71s were long out, after all) - the brakes (or lack thereof) and the 3 speed column shifter. Those were the two things I fixed first.

Between the two of those, the truck went from a pain to a pleasure to drive...
