RPO codes
any one know why some trans are listed M49 and mine is a M38 is it just TH400 and TH 350 - one site I found said the M38 was a TH 375 (TH 350 with some TH 400 internals) any truth to this ?

Re: RPO codes
without looking at my books... I wa thinking the M38 was the powerglide.
Both the Th400 and Th350 were M49 |

Re: RPO codes
1970 350 4 bbl TH 350 (or 375 ?) custom, P/S A/C P/B ,HD rear coils and factory step bumper, Sounds like they planed on towing somthing which would be funny for a powerglide and the gear indicator on the column is for a TH350 of course this could have been changed but people usually don't go through the trouble.

Re: RPO codes
ok, i just looked in the books, an M 28 is a powerglide.
The only autos offered are the 350, 400 and powerglide... Are you sure it says 38... or could it be a 2? Are the letters COPO anywhere on your spid? |

Re: RPO codes
FYI, a 375 is a 400 with a 350 output shaft. Length of ext housing is about 10 inches.

Re: RPO codes
years ago I had a trans rebuilt under GM factory warranty and they are the ones that said they converted it to a 375 by installing 400 parts in the 350 , so I guess they were yanking my chain. It definitely has a " M ? 8 - 3 speed auto trans" no copo codes I guess its a mystery
