Cab roof swap

Has anyone replaced the cab roof? I am sure this has been done but my real question is where did you cut on the a and b pillars? how did you get the same cut on the new and old roof parts? I have hit a wall on this and need some help.

Measure, measure, measure. I would cut in the middle of the door pillars and b-pillars with a sleeve insert so you can adjust a little if you have too. They call it a but weld with backer. You could also do an offset cut from one side fo the post to the other. Why do you want to cut the whole roof off. It may be easier to find another cab.

finding another cab might be a better choice, unless youre chopping it, but either way do like 72CSTC5 and cut as centered as you can and be sure to double abd triple check your measure ments

thanks for the help I think that is the way I got to go but making the first cut on my cab is scary. I have been measuring for weeks and it is still hard to do. I got a good roof to put in and all I can do is wish i lived in AZ or work with what i got. I just figured I would ask the wisdom of the board before I went past the point of no return. Time to chop chop.

Look, an old bodyman once told me, it is only metal, you can always add some back or take some away, too bad the woodworkers cant say the same. After telling me that, I was never afraid to tackle anything anymore. What I meant by a backer was after you cut off the roof, put an insert in the front pillar post. Tack weld them to the existing pillars on the truck body. Install your roof on the truck. The sleeves will help keep it in place. Close your doors to check your gaps and then grind down the new roof panel at the rear of the cab to fit where you want your gaps. Tack weld everything in place and I know it is a pain but I would install at least the back glass to check your fit before final welding. I would also brace the cab diaganoly in there some home to keep it from twisting with the heat of the welding. Good luck and go for it.

Thank you I got to get the camera off the wife to get some pics and since I only get to work friday and saturday night form 9:00 till ? the truck progress never seems to be photo worthy. On the plus side my daughters should be old enough to drive when the truck is done. HAHAHAHAHA They are 1 and 3 now.
