Question 292 L6 4bbl carb fuel pump questions

Hey has anyone put a 4bbl on their inline 292? I have had mine all set up for a while, but haven't run it yet, the only stock part on the whole motor is the fuel pump, I was wondering if this is going to have enough flow to feed the big holley 600.

should feed it just fine. remember that you can't put much more fuel in than the stock carb did cause you would flood the motor so it shouldn't have a problem. at really high rpm's it may but the 292 redlines at about 4 grand so it'll be ok. 600 CFM seems quite large for a 292. I think you may be happier with something like a 390 or so. you may have problems with an off idle dead spot and losing low end torque cause the intake velocity is not high enough to pull fuel through the big holley. a 390 would keep intake velocity higher and may be more desireable. just my .02

Is your carb a vacuum secondary or a manual secondary carb. If it is a really hot motor it might not be enough pump,but if the motor is not highly modified it will propably be too much carb,might need to go to a 390 Holley.

I run a similar setup. I have a afb 500 4bbl on mine. I have been really happpy with the results after a lot of tuning. The fuel pump should be alright, if your not a racer. 600 cfm seems a little big. Hope that it is vacuum sec. I have really good low end tourque right now with mine. Overall I think a stock on will work it you dont race it.

Also what do you "redline" your motor at?

Yes well, I was worried the carb might be a bit much, but I bought it years ago and thought i'd use it. I was thinking of down jetting it, that would probably fix my problem, at least that's what i'm thinking.

I have a holley 390 cfm that will work on your 292 for $100.00 plus ship if your interested.Hope this helps.

I have a 292 w/390 cfm Holley on my pickup. Been running with the stock fuel pump for years. I would'nt use the electric fuel pump for anything less than a BBC.
