electronic flasher relay for LED tailights - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I picked up a set of the LED tailight boards from Ryan or at least I should have them showing up in the mailbox any day now. Anyhoo... what sort of flasher should I be using. Ive heard the term "electronic flasher" knocked around but I have no idea what to ask for when I go down to the parts store and God help me if I ask the counter jockies for help on a custom item like that. Anyone know what sort of flasher relay I'll need to ask for?

why wouldn't a standard flasher work?

Leds don't draw enough amperage to make a standard flasher operate correctly. Most standared flashers are set up so they don't work correctly if a bulb burns out,so that you know it is burned out and LEDs will put them in this mode. There are some electronic ones out there that will work with LEDs and pick up any Harley parts catalog and they have load equilizers that fool the flasher into thinking it is a regular bulb

I went to AutoZone or Discount Auto and purchased one for my turn signals...they are a stocked item just hanging on the shelf. I found them in the flasher section. I don't know if they will work with the LED's or not but they are an electronic flasher not mechanical.

Figures. I went down to the auto parts store . Bought one for $12. Got home , destroyed the package opening it and pulled out the old flasher. Its electronic! Its tape time. No wonder that thing was so quiet.

I have LED bulbs from Ledtronics, in the rear of my truck. I replaced the flasher with an electronic one from the 'Zone. No problemo. I replaced the 4-way flasher, too. I still have the old incandescents in the front, and will eventually replace them with more from the same source as the rears.
