Need Help With Hooker Trouble

Need suggestions
Can't get drivers side Hooker 2452's to clear
The first try Header hit crossmember so rear of header flange was to high.

I replaced motor mounts which helped but also had to added about 3/4" spacer under tranny mount to clear crossmember. (1st Photo is before I added spacer)

I can now get all the bolts in, but header is hitting the frame rail so the top of the header flange is angled out further than the bottom.
I think I can grind the frame rail some to get clearance.
But from reading posts on headers the Hooker 2452's should have fit better than this.

Also will raising the tranny 3/4" cause any problems since angle of drive shaft changed.

Pleased let me know if you have any thought on getting these to fit.
Or should I send them back to Summit and try something else.

Thanks
WT

Re: Need Help With Hooker Trouble

What year truck is this? 4X4? or 2X4? If it's 2X4 is it Lowered? Are those long tube headers? I have Ceramic Hooker super competition "shorty version" & they fit perfect on my 71 C-10 that is very low, they tuck up higher then the crossmember.

70 2WD, 350/350, lowered some.
These are long tube Hooker Comp.
I read a bunch of the header threads before I decided on these.
All said the fit was good, not sure whats odd about mine.

Re: Need Help With Hooker Trouble

This likely isn't much help but I have these on my '72 C10 and there were NO fitting issues at al other than having to adjust some brake lines and the fuel vapor return.

EDIT: My motor mounts are in the front hole as well.

Is there any way the engine could be shifted towards the driver side (?) Mine really aren't tight at all; I'm happy to post pictures if it will help...maybe left/right clearance?

Re: Need Help With Hooker Trouble

Would it make any difference of which motor mount holes you used? I know there's 2 sets of holes, not sure if would fit better if your in the front holes or the rear holes, maybe Billa can elaberate on this, I know he's very knowledgeable on these trucks, maybe some guys can post some pictures of their setups & maybe something will show up to explain it. I can post mine, but their shorty's, so I'm not sure if it would be helpful to you.

Header trouble? Try stock manifolds. They fit right every time. Not much gain with the header set up unless a hot rod car and your gonna run pinks light to light. Get a hammer a dent those tubes. Thats how the big boys do it.

I've always said the same thing in terms of header gains based on chassis dyno work but the Car Craft article in the thread below was an eye-opener for me and I'm rethinking.

As for "clearancing" the pipes...last resort IMHO.

Re: Need Help With Hooker Trouble

Those headers look great!. Sorry to hear about the fitment problem. At this point I would probably grind a little off the frame rail and be done. I have Super Comps #2808 on mine and they fit great.

you can also try and find some of the motor mount shims/spacers/plates

the 73+ and others sometimes used a steel plate between the block and mount. i would suggest pushing the deal backward and re drilling your motor and trans x members. i have mine pushed back about 1" and it helps in so many ways.

Re: Need Help With Hooker Trouble

Hey I got Hooker 2452s on my 68 BB and they look a little different than those. Had no clearance at all. They slip right in and out. Here are a couple of pics.

The topic of this thread - and then the last poster name I saw was this guy above me...

You guys put it together - I got a laugh.

Re: Need Help With Hooker Trouble

I was alluding to just the fact of "Pole Kitty" being the last poster seen in the thread about "Hooker Trouble".

I didn't even really read your post that in depth, until just now. WOW! This one is on the verge of being un-family friendly.

Re: Need Help With Hooker Trouble

i had a bit of trouble getting my headers to fit.

turns out when my tranny was re-built, a new mount (that was different) got put on. the motor had to move a little further back (1/4 inch or so) so i just slotted the tranny mount bolt holes on the crossmember. it was very simple to do, the crossmember basically falls out. HOWEVER my truck is not lowered.
2wd 350/350 though.
