im about to purchase a custom tube grill and was wondering if the hood latch would be accessable through it. it looks like there isnt a place to get my hand in there. does anyone have experiance with these?

well in my 86 it wouldnt be an issue cause you pull the hood cable in the cab the lift it again after the hood has poped up about 2 inches, That were my 2nd latch it.

Now if it and older model like the 70s i really doknow never had one but id think id go for the late 80s model hood opening mechanism. (fabrication time)

i see alot of 70s trucks with the tube grill.

I can fit enough of my hand through my square tube grill to pop the first latch, but not the safety latch. Instead, I can raise the hood enough to depress the latch arm itself to release the latch. It's a little dificult to open, but I don't worry about other people getting in there.

I made a release rod out of a lawn sprinkler handle I got at Home Depot. It has a D-shaped handle on one end and I threaded the other end to attach it to the latch. It is accessable from under the grille. I used a cable clamp to use as a guide and attached it to the grille support.
Once I get a front bumper, I'll probably have to change it to something else.
