Flexplate removal help
None of my three chevy truck books covers flexplate or flywheel removal, so I assumed it would be simple. Dammned if I can remove the one on my 307. After removing all the bolts it will move sideways but not off the crank shaft. Is there a trick to it? I retreated rather than risk damaging it but I needs to come off tomorrow. The original service manual instructions are "remove flywheel" lol
Maybe there's a puller?

It's a tight fit but should come off without undue force. No puller needed that I'm aware of.

flexplates are a pretty snug fit, you just have to wiggle and pull at the same time and they usually come off pretty easy, sometimes, if there is a rust ring around the flexplate on the crankshaft, you have to uses some emery cloth and sand the rust off. I have had them stuck tight enough i couldn't wiggle them at all, just whap it with a dead blow hammer or a bfh and a wood block, it will come off sooner or later, don't use a prybar or something on it or you will take a chance of bending it.

I think Ol'buck has the correct answer for your problem. I think you will find rust is the problem and sandpaper is the answer. Just keep sanding the center part that sticks thru the flexplate till it is nice and shiney, then it should pull right off.

I agree with the other guys. I'd try a wire brush on an electric drill to clean the end of the crank where the flexplate pilots, followed by some WD40. Then wedge a piece of wood on one side under the flexplate and pry from the opposite side levering the flexplate against the wood and it should pop right off.

Just remember that as already posted,it is very easy to damage a flex plate.......I think I would clean the rust ring,& shoot a little "goose juice" on the crank, then try to wiggle it off..........69longhorn.

Thanks for all the good tips. Wire-brushed, sanded and lubed and it eventually worked off by hand. A great spring day to be out working on it too.
