Will the Cap Fit?

Hey Guys,

We're heading on a bit of a road trip in a couple of weeks, and I would love to take the '86 (instead of our Pathfinder). Trouble is, I just have an open box. I would love to find a fiberglass cap for the back that I could "borrow" from someone. I just need to know what styles fit our trucks.

My father inlaw has a nice cap (thinking it's an Leer) on his late-90's F**d F150. Would this "modern" cap fit my '86? Both are LWB, 8' box trucks.

Any thoughts?

Re: Will the Cap Fit?

We use a late 90s Ford topper on our 03 Chevy all the time, fits pretty reasonably well, but doesn't seal against the front of the box quite properly

Re: Will the Cap Fit?

OK - so would a "Glastite" cap off an 1986 Ford F150 work on my 1986 Chevy. From what I've been told, there is little difference between the "big 3" truck manufacturers in this era. Ford fits Chevy, fits Dodge, fits Ford, etc.

Re: Will the Cap Fit?

I was just looking at our 03 chevy box as compared to the older one, and there is a pretty significant difference in the front bed rail. The new truck's is wide like the sides, while the old truck's is rounded off and slightly lower than the sides. Not so sure it'd work that way.

I dunno what the old Ford boxes are like, so I can't really say if it'd work or not.
