Re: help with trans paint color

Pretty sure the 4-speed trans. is red also. I have one ready to convert back from auto and although I haven't cleaned up the trans. yet the bell housing definately has some red on it.

Re: help with trans paint color

The bell housing would be orange, but I dont believe I have ever seen factory paint on a transmission or transfer case. I think they were bare metal. Of course me not seeing it doesnt mean much either. JMO

Re: help with trans paint color

I think the transmission bare metal would be an aluminum. A friend of mine who does correct Corvettes told me to lightly dust the transmission with an aluminum paint that way it dosen't nessesaryly look painted.

Re: help with trans paint color

Don't mean to sound difficult, but I still say red. At least for these early HD truck 4-speeds. I haven't seen any installed, but I have seen pictures on the internet. For sale posts and such. And they have been red. Trans. and bellhousing.

My GMC has a red tranny, it matched the 305 V6 paint.

Re: help with trans paint color

The transfer cases and manual trannys were painted. As was the bell housing. The auto trannys werent painted. As for the color,it depends on the t-case.The np205s had a different color than the rockwell t-case,I believe.I dont know the name of either color other than they are a redish brown color.I dont know what the name of the color is for the manual trannys either. And yes, french was right. The np205 was painted a mopar color.I dont care as mine don't stay factory colors anyway....The manual trannys and the transfer cases werent in bare metal!
