finding new carburetor for inline 6

I need to replace the 1 barrel carburetor on my 250 inline(1970) and I was wondering were the best place would be to buy one. The only ones I find in summit for a pickup truck are for the years 1967 and 1972, but then they have a carburetor for a 1970 van, I would think these would work but just to be on the safe side.

thanks in advanced

Re: finding new carburetor for inline 6

The '67 carb probably won't work as it's most likely a Rochester BV and you've probably got a Rochester MV. I would be inclined to try the '72 carb, however I think your best bet in your case would be to take it to your FLAPS and have them match it up. That way you're sure to get the correct carb.

Now if you're looking to upgrade and do all sorts of expensive mods on that little six, go get yourself a V8! Unless you're a diehard like me, it'll be cheaper in the long run.

Re: finding new carburetor for inline 6

by the way, make sure you get a carb which has a mixture adjustment. my carb does not appear to have a power circuit mixture adjustment (the only adjustment is for the idle circuit), and this carb is jetted permanently rich, which leads to problems like carbon buildup in the cylinders, fouled plugs, not to mention 11 MPG...

Re: finding new carburetor for inline 6

I put a remanufactured/rebuilt one on my 70 from Auto Zone. It was around $100. I had no problems what so ever. The difference I saw between the carbs they listed at the time was the carb was either manual choke (like mine) or had the provision for the automatic choke.

Re: finding new carburetor for inline 6

Just put one from Rock Auto on my 68 c10 250. The one I got was reman. by United Remanufacturing Inc. they are a wholeseller but gave me some great feedback prior to and after purchase. I paid $120 minus a $30 core charge for that Rochester M 1 bbl. I have had it installed about a month and so far so good.
