Re: 65gmc motor and tranny

I'm toward the end of my change over......

had a 250 with 3 on the tree....

went to a 350 with a 700r4 auto....

you will need an auto tranny crossmember, I had to cut the old manual one out...

I also bought new motor mounts...

You also need to decide how you are going to shift, either stay with the column, or go with a floor shifter.......

as far as swapping them out, it was very easy..plenty of room in the engine bay......

If I can help let me know...

Re: 65gmc motor and tranny

I went from the 250 column shift to 350 roller and 700r4 tranny, elec fan, and column shift. I just used the original shifter and added a lockar universal shift linkage to the tranny and a stick on gear selector indicator for the column. I am completly happy with performance and the auto, but if I had it all to do over I think I would have tricked out the 250 with a nice cam and some modern upgrades and the 700r4. I really like the room and the economy that the six gives you. And with the right gear and the 700r4, it would still have plenty of pulling power along with great gas mileage.
