Manifold Gaskets

I have a 68 c10 w/ a 250. I am in the process of replacing the manifold gaskets. The new gaskets are the type that have a fiber middle w/ metal on the outside. Do I need to use a sealant? I have been told both yea and no. I do not think you are supposed to need any with that type of gasket. Thanks

Re: Manifold Gaskets

No Sealant....... Put Shiney Side Of Gasket Toward Manifold. Also Install The Gasket Between The Intake Manifold And Exh. Manifold. When You Bolt Them Back Together Make Sure Both Gasket Sealing Areas Are Flush Where It Bolts To Engine And Make Sure Its Smooth And Super Clean Where It Bolts To Engine. Take It Out And Run It Till It Gets Hot Then Re-torque Everything. I Always Install A Exhaust Pipe Hanger From A Bellhousing Bold To Take Strain Off Exh. Manifold. Sure Makes All Last Longer And Never Breaks Exh. Manifold. Oh Yea Use Brass Nuts On The Exh. Manifold Studs To Tighten Exh. Pipe. Jmo
