Left turn sig. and brake out

OK guys heres the newest escapade. Noticed last night that the left rear turn sig. and the brake light (same side) are not working. The running light does though??? Also the idiot light (brake, on the instrument panel) is now on. Brakes are working just fine for now, I am concerned though. So, I noticed that when we had the turn sig. cam issue that none of the rear sigs or brake lights worked. Again running lights ok. Front turn sigs. both work fine as do the rt. rear??? What to do what to do. Any and all ideas welcomed, this thing acts like its 40 years old. Thanks, Mike............

Re: Left turn sig. and brake out

IF had a bad ground all yor lights would be goofy...i'd say a bad socket or filiments in the bulb are crossing. change the bulb, clean the socket would be a good start.

try the hazards, they use a different switch and blinker.

the brake light and flasher on one side... sounds like a bad bulb, or a single bad wire, or a bad turn signal switch.
I wouls suspect it in that order.

Re: Left turn sig. and brake out

^ Yup, brake & t.s. light use the same filament... Bad bulb may *possibly* cause dash light to come on? If it's a bad bulb or wire, it won't affect the operation of the brakes at all.

Re: Left turn sig. and brake out

as far as the idiot light on the dash i'd suggest checking the level of fluid in the master cylinder and if you unplug the wire from the switch on the combination valve it should go out if it doesnt that means your getting a back feed to that indicator light

Re: Left turn sig. and brake out

yeah, I forgot to mentione that... the dash light is completely unrelated to the lights in the back.
It indicates a pressure imballance between the front and rear systems... check the master cylinder level, and if one is adnormally low, look for a leak somewhere.

Re: Left turn sig. and brake out

The bulb is good, brand new, even replaced with another new just to be sure. Fluid levels were checked before I made the post, although the emerg flasher check I did not think of. Will try that when I get off this afternoon. A I have had no blown fuses, could the flasher cause just one side to do this? Also the running light works back there. Oy vey this is not helping my blood pressure. Lastly as I was crawling around under the rear of the truck I noticed that the rear end is leaking or slinging oil at the drive shaft. Is there a seal like that in the rear of the trans?? or is it one that you have to remove the engine stand on your head and face a full moon at midnight to get to. Or hopefully pop it out and replace??? Thanks, Mike......
