Size: 49.7 KBi should of proly asked this in the suspension area, but i figured i would get more replys here( sorry moderators). i have been working on cleaning my frame/ all morning and welding any holes that are not used.... also started on putting my c notch kit in i got from GMC pauls as many know there is not template and it seems hard to mess up but did i ? i started out getting the frame level front to rear and side to side. with everything level i made a template out of poster board, nad made my cuts... i made shure that the c notch was right in the middle of my axle. and it seems measure out fine, my question is in the first pic.should there be that wide of a gap? i am planning on fully welding it all around and also bolting it. but that gap seems weird to me . are these not made to be center to center? like as the center of the notch with the center of the axel? i hope i didnt cut this wrong... but i think i am over reacting alittle.....(argon getting to me .....any help or if you guys see something i have done wrong please point it out to me, i have no shame i would rather ask and look like a moron than to do this the wrong way and be a moron . thanks tony

Re: does this look right?

looks to me like the plates should go to the inside of the frame rail to box in that part of the rail for extra strength

Re: does this look right?

you installed it the correct way ... but most folks go ahead and drill the holes and bolt it up up before welding. mine looked the same way before I drilled the holes ... the bolts help pull it up "snug" with the frame.

drill it ... bolt it ... weld it ... remove bolts ... weld up bolt holes.

Re: does this look right?

I didn't weld mine at all ... just bolts ... but I have seen it done where folks that DO weld them bolt them up first, then weld around the perimeter/outside of the C notch, remove the bolts and then plug weld the holes ... don't know of anyone that has boxed using this sort of C notch ... guys making their own from 4"-5" tubing box normally box the frame in this area, but thats because there is nothing there other than the tubing. With the bought C notch, you have the section on the side AND the bottom.

You look to be off to a good start thought.

Good Luck!

Re: does this look right?

These aren't really good pics, but shows how mine pulled up with nothing but the bolts.

Honestly, if it was me, I would bolt it, snug it and then weld just around the outside since you already started welding it. I wouldn't bother removing the bolts, unless you are going for the "smooth" look.

Re: does this look right?

i think i will leave the bolts in and just dress my welds really good.... i like the smoothe look.. but i the bolts dont bother me if everything else is clean, they wont stick out to much
