6 cylinders

I have a 250 6 in a 67, all original.
Just bought a 3spd w/OD to mount behind it.
I want to retain the column shift, blows the young ones away.

Plans are to keep the drive train close to original, but drop it and add disc brakes and P/S.
Maybe A/C if I find one..........

Question:
Will a 302 6 from a GMC bolt in?
front engine mounts?
Bell housing?
Flywheel the same?
If so, do you think the radiator could handle it?
If not I assume a 292 would?
Has anyone tried a different carb other than a Monojet?
Maybe something like a Mikuni of a Toyota or Datsun?
Issue would be it has to be down draft.

a GMC 302 is a whole 'nother animal than a 250. it's of the same series as the 235/261 chevy and the 248/270/302, ocming to an end in the late 50's - early 60's.

so. discount the 302, to be blunt.

the 292 is a torque monster, and has the same bell housing as the 250, along with small block chevys. the radiator could handle it, i'm sure. the front motor mount for the 292 will have to be moved to a different position, but thats relatively minor.

as for the carb, one of the best things you could do is get an Offenhauser 4-bbl intake, and either put a small 4 bbl, like a 390 holley, or a smaller q-jet/edelbrock, etc., or an adapter for a 2 barrel. it'll help the engine breath so much better. but while you're at it, throw in a set of headers, and voila!

you have a vintage, pretty rare and down right awesome. the sound of a 6 through headers is almost terrifying. someone said that a V8 sounds mean through open headers, but a straight 6 sounds like its coming to eat your family. and i kinda have to agree.

Mike, I am getting ready to do the same. Just purchased a 3 spd. with overdrive and plan on putting it in my '71 with a 250. Shoot me a pic of that trans. I would like to compare it to mine (which is in transit via Fedex)

I have been having carb issues with my monojet, and I am putting a 2bbl on it this weekend, I'll let you know what kind of performance change I get. I had a good amount of power with the mono, but I think it will get alot more headroom with the new one.

I've heard that you can wrap out a 250 more than a 292 also, you might just keep the 250, if you put a Offenhauser/Clifford intake and a 4bbl and some headers on it, I'm sure you'd be rockin pretty good. (That's at least $700 for used stuff though too!)

I really had to hold back not adding a set of hedman headers to the order! ! !

All I-6 Engines Need A 160 Degree Thormostat And A 3 Core Rad. The Back 2 Cylinders Runn Alot Hotter Than The Rest Of Them. You,ll Be Glad You Did This When You Do It. Electric Fan Also A Big Plus.

i am taking out the 305 engine and im puting in 292 inline six engine
