transmission question
I have a 4 speed with creeper in my 67' 4x4 along with a small block 350. The problem I have is when I shift from second gear into third(taking off down the road) feels like it falls on its face. 3rd is a really long ratio before I shift to 4th? So it loses all its momentum from when I took off in second gear. Is this normal? I understand this type of truck was setup for low torque, 'work horse'. Ive owned several 70's style Ford (can I say the F-word on here
 ) 4x4 trucks that was set up the same way but the gear ratios were spread out more and had a pretty good power throughout... So what other manual transmissions are out there that would be no problem swapping with what I have now, what year? Thanks. Mike

Sounds like a typical New Process tranny to me.

Here's an old discussion that covers this very point;
You would have a SM 420 in there unless somebody switched them for some reason. Just think of it as a 3spd with an extra granny low to get a trailer or camper load moving,and you will understand why it doesn't seem like a car 4spd. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...p/t-20495.html
