I have been thinking about something like this for a while. I think it will be kind of functional, right? I just tied it on with some strong trot line string, its just to kind of mock up and hold until I can mount it better if I like it.

I used about 4 or 5 feet of black plastic drainpipe and it routed through pretty well. I have a pull string to pull it up behind the bumper if it rains or dirty road. Might just be like a vacuum cleaner and suck bad things up too.

lemme know thoughts, opinions, improvements.

should I shroud the air filter some so it would suck more air through?
maybe some kind of shroud to funnel the air in and compress it more at the entrance under the bumper. I keep tryin to think of ideas for it.

i'd think your efforts would be better spent working on a shroud smstem for your radiator

haha you mean my shroud is a little small. I know, just gotta find one that fits and looks ok. I never thought about that much though, its always ran about 190 degrees, so I havent really tried much there.

i've seen a couple of designs for these system in old hot rod magazines they used two old style aircleanerhousings from the wreckingyard shortened the necks put the extra neck from the one aircleanerousing on the other base and run the airhoses off that .
they allso used the airinlet from the base of the windshield wish normally gets used for the defrosting inside the cabine of the truck , this makes the hoses realy short and the whole thing looking verry nice actually .
just the hose pointed at the filter whon't work as good as using a housing around the filter blocking out the hot air comming off the engine

Yeah, I figured a shroud around the airfilter will pull more clean/cool air through. and I need a small screen somewhere to keep rocks and small things from gettin all the way up to the filter and damaging it.

Look at the driver's side head light. See the 4" hole in the support it's for cold air intake. The picture was taken with the screen removed. Plumed to the air box off a caddy.

I know the TPI unit is differant but the princibles the same. I bought 4" couplers and 90 at Lowes and used them. Cut a 4" hole in bottom of box and sealed up the factory hole with sheet metal and sealer. The hose I got at NAPA. You could even get a late model air box off someone that has bought a cold air kit and use it then go to a junkyard find the factory intake hose setup and plum it back to the intake leaving your filter off completely. Just a idea. It's your truck.

Andy, thats the spot I would like to put it, just dont have the tools on hand to cut the core support, maybe next time I got to my parents place. Yours looks good.

Tools are nice. I barrowed a 4" hole saw at work to do mine. It made it easy.

Why not just try a stock air cleaner and hook your tube to the snorkel? I think the intent is good but the execution could be adjusted for better effect...

I think the point of cold air is to get away from any "under hood" hot air entering the engine... Also opens it up to the fresh ram air on the open road...
