Score!

Just had to come on and say this to somebody that cares more than my wife -

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

Today I got the bottom end of a 400 small block...std bore. It had puked a rod and there may be a little damage, but I'm so damn excited to get one. I had been wanting a BBC but didn't want to fork out the dough. I had pretty much figure that for what I wanted to spend I'd end up with a 383. Well, bring on the stroked 400 baby!!! Looking at the 433 setups. If anybody has suggestions, let me know, I haven't really looked at stroker kits for 400s much.

I also got a 68 cab with very minimal rust for $300. Thing I didn't know before I picked it up, it's an AC cab, NICE! Not to mention they threw in the complete AC system and plenty of other (although prob junk stuff) with it!

I feel pretty good today. Later!

Re: Score!

Thanks man, it's all about patience I guess. My patience has been forced. Bought my truck in July 2005....haven't had much chance to work on it but I'll tell you the good deals have been flowing lately. But that 400 block was just pure luck, even finding one at std bore (mine is going to be blown and possibly even nitroused occasionally so I need that strength...).

It's a two bolt mains, so I'll have to do the splayed main caps thing..honestly, I like those better anyway. At the very least they look cool with the oil pan off lol.

I'm going to try to get the pain off tonight and see what the bottom end looks like. I am hoping it's fine as is, but I think worst case I might have to have that cylinder sleeved. Trying to keep the std bore!

Wheeeeeeeeeeee. I FINALLY got a good deal. Actually, I did manage to get a brand new Edelbrock polished aluminum timing cover last week, so I guess I'm on sort of a streak.

Re: Score!

just got my mild 406/400 running and can honestly say there is no need to stroke it unless you are looking on tubbing the rear...you will have traction problems either way you go!!! Good score btw

Re: Score!

I know they ARE sweet even stock stroke, however, if I'm going all out, I'm going to go ape $h!t nuts on it. I wanted to get a 454 to stroke out, but I just couldn't justify the cost. For less than I projected the big block to cost that I wanted to build I'll have this 400 stroked and blown...and yeah, burning tons of tread. That's what I'm talking about :P

I'm sure the 15x10 rears with mickey-t (streets) and detroit locker I've got stashed in the garage

edit: should have been WON'T not WILL

help much, but building fast cars is a process. Sounding and looking fast is the first step :P getting silly in the bleach box is part 2...I guess getting traction will be step 3!
