Worst trailing arm rust I've ever seen !!!
Guy stopped by today to see if we we interested in buying another truck(never hurts to look right ?) Anyway he had just driven it about 10-15 miles from storage location to my house, it is his brothers truck. I told him to drive it back VERY carefully. He said it had some frame rust, but rearend was ready to fall out, or the springs push thru the frame !!! You can see in the one pic how the arms are bent front the torque. Overall pretty rough truck, kind of bondoed over the rust and painted it. Had fairly new crate 350, but frame was toast. Heres some pics -

Re: Worst trailing arm rust I've ever seen !!!
looks like a typical midwest truck.
There's a 68 sittin a few miles from here I stopped to inquire about it a few years ago... heck, i was still drivin the 69, so it was at least 3 or 4 years now. Anyways, typical responce... I'm gonna restore it one day" (it had already sunk 3 inches in the dirt) I go by there about a year ago, still there, and one of the trailing arms gave out and IT was sinking into the dirt now. i oughta go back by and offer him 100 bucks, see if he jumps on it. |

Re: Worst trailing arm rust I've ever seen !!!
Thatīs why we have to get our cars inspected over here every 2 years.
If the inspector seen that, he would of said leave the keys here and walk home.

Re: Worst trailing arm rust I've ever seen !!!
Man I thought mine was bad! Mine have surface rust, but the bottom piece of plate steel is flaking off like paper, I am going to need to air hammer that ***** off and get a new piece to weld on. I guess I could beef it up at the same time. I was thinking of just getting used ones that were better, but these pics have me rethinking that.

Re: Worst trailing arm rust I've ever seen !!!
This is a 65 or so...
ashes to ashes, dust to dust... Edit: The truck is located in South West NY and it can't be seen in the summer when the trees and brush fill in with leaves and what-not.

Re: Worst trailing arm rust I've ever seen !!!
I have a friend that had a 3/4 ton 65 that both trailing arms rusted in half. The frame was decent though, and the coils were all that was keeping the rear end in that truck.

Re: Worst trailing arm rust I've ever seen !!!
Now thats what you call laying frame!!! We owned a 72 4x4 that lived on the farm and the guys had hauled fertilizer in it. Must have been some pretty acidic stuff because we had to replace the rear frame from the shock crossmember back. It was pretty sad looking.

67cr I think the axle can be saved. My naighbors brother had a 69-70 that he was building. His control arms were about that bad except they had collapsed. He wasnt driving it luckily. He lucked out and i gave him an extra set I had lying around.

Re: Worst trailing arm rust I've ever seen !!!
Yep, there may be worse ones sitting in a junk yard, but I am talking about a truck that was/is ? still going down the road as of Sunday. I did feel I had to point that out to the guy, hope he didn't think I was an ass for making a big deal about it, taking pictures and such, but if he would have felt the need to get the carbon out of it and the rear end came out doing 90 on the way home and him and his 15 year old son got killed, well, I just had to point out it was not safe at all.
