it finally happened to me
glass fuel filter broke sitting on top of the intake. it wasn't touching anything, it just loosened and started spewing gas out from the filter. i smelled fuel and saw a trail behind me and pulled over, fuel was coming out the passenger side so i look under the hood and the intake's valleys were full of fuel and the whole engine compartment covered in gasoline. nothing caught fire but it took the rubber undercoating off my firewall and discolored my red water pump. my amp fuse holder melted, and that's about it.

Re: it finally happened to me
did it break, or was it just not tight?

Re: it finally happened to me
it loosened itself. it was tight and maintenance free for about 5000 miles since the new motor. it technically should tighten back up but it's somehow cross threaded now so I’m running without a filter for a bit. i need a good metal filter that's a one piece design.

you must have been being watched over by the chevy gods, the outcome of this could have ended terribly different. Those glass filters are just a problem waiting to happen. Cb |

Re: it finally happened to me
Okay, this is a sign....second incident in two days with the glass fuel filter...and I have one. I also have a new Russell metal in-line fuel filter. Guess it is time to change, huh? But I keep my fire extinguisher on the seat right beside me.
I have been set on fire once, already. So, if you have "being set on fire before you die" on your list of things to do, mark it off. It ain't worth the trouble. If you don't know how to use a fire extinguisher properly, you might want to think about it. Remember the P.A.S.S. acronym. P=pull the pin A=aim at the base of the flames S=squeeze the handle S=sweep from side to side. Hopefully, you won't need to resort to this, but PASS is easy enough to remember. Heck, take a magic marker and write PASS on your fire extinguisher. That'll remind you.
