What did you get done? 08/02 Labor Day edition
I am on call this week so I didn't get a chance to work on my truck. Besides my usual ritual of washing my daily driver, I didn't do anything truck related.
I have been doing some on line shopping. I bought a couple more 73-79 trim pieces on eBay, and I have been looking for parts for my 82 Blazer. What did you get done? NOS Grill trim- Yeah, I know they are rough but they will work for mock up- LS1 power steering pulley-

Am about halfway thru replacing the head gaskets on our Suburban...and all I can say...what a PITA!!!!
I did manage to score a set of black seatbelts and sunvisors, NICE factory AM/FM radio, and headliner board. Other than that, worked on the house and hung out with some family today.

Yard work...
My son somehow managed to knock loose one of his front lower teeth, glad I work in the dental biz, called my dentist up, she met me at her office at 6:30 tonight to take pano and bitewing xrays and pull the tooth out, luckily it was hanging, no root. He's almost 5 so no worries, his other tooth is right behind it ready to come in. Sure did give me a scare. Whew. Was going to go to the local cruise in last night, but it started storming here. Other than that, nothing. I did watch "death proof", it was ok.

Re: What did you get done? 08/02 Labor Day edition
Well the weekend isn't over yet, so my weekend so far consisted of going up to the cottage on Friday after work with my enclosed trailer.
Got my boat pulled from the water and decided to sell it so I could put the $$$ towards my project truck. Today I loaded my dads 4 wheeler into my trailer and hauled it home, then relaxed. Tomorrow I plan on replacing the lighting in the barn ( where I do my work) with some T-8 fluorescent fixtures and bulbs that will actually light up in the winter unlike the current fixtures that have t-12 bulbs in them. Also I hope to get my emergency cables secured, and possible fix the hole in the floor on my 83. PLUS I want to get the new frame I got for the project brought into the barn so I can strip it. I was doing some online searching for a cab/doors/LWB box/tailgate and found a site of a place that I have visited that had parts. They have a 1984 GMC 1/2 ton long box Southern Truck Sierra Classic. 350 auto. AC, loaded. New Interior $5,995 o.b.o. Not sure of the mileage and living in northern Ontario, good trucks are hard to come by. So far I have spent 200 on the frame and I should be able to get a cab/doors/box/tailgate for around 3,000$. So for 5,000$ it is a complete truck along with a 350, since my current 83 only has a 305. Anyhow here is a picture of the truck in question that I might look at buying to save time and $$$ on the project, lol

Re: What did you get done? 08/02 Labor Day edition
$6000 seems a little high for a 80's model longbed. Around here, thats all we have and a super nice one can be found for $3000 or so. Buts thats around here. Looks like a nice truck though.
I got rid of my 59 Chevy Fleetside and got me a 76 SWB. One helluva trade if you ask me. Im going to go look at a 77 long bed tomorrow. Its 500 bucks, why not? Thats about it. DOOCE

Been working on my car since Friday evening, y'all ain't go no idea how much stuff is behind the interior trim of Lincoln. She is topless already tho, tomorrow I'm extending some wiring and putting all back together, she needs to be road-worthy till the afternoon cause I gotta head home some time in the night. Would be interesting trip for sure, weather is supposed to be all clear and I ain't used to see stars when I look up, lol

Around here, everything gets killed by all the salt that is used on the roads. Now granted that truck probably was bought for about 3,000 and this place is marking it up to make a profit since they had to either go get it or pay the shipping and get it across the border. In a way I would like to buy that truck since it is already done and would save me some time and $$$, but then what fun of a project is that, lol. Just a body minus the front clip and frame goes for around 3,000$ around here.

Re: What did you get done? 08/02 Labor Day edition
Cut all the wiring harness out of mine since it was already hacked up by the previous owner. Got the cab all ready to come off except for two bolts(was getting late). Got one that broke, one that came out all the way in one piece, another that's turning in place, and the last thats taking a breaker bar with a pipe to get out. Plan on getting teh cab off and taking a pressure washer to it to get her re-done. Now I got to find a place to put her for the winter! Momma gets the garage with her 07 Eclipse Spyder....

Finished stripping the '77 LWB. Trying to get rid of the frame and bed. It's FREE to anyone near Houston who can come pick it up today. Otherwise I call the scrap metal place tomorrow to come get it.

Re: What did you get done? 08/02 Labor Day edition
Well, got the lights installed like I wanted. I then tightened up the emergency cables to find out the cable going to the pedal is seized. Got the carb adjusted better so it idles like it is supposed to. Emptied the old tank from the truck that still has gas and water in it.
Then I finally got the new frame moved into the barn so I can tear it apart and get the project started. Oh yeah and got my BBQ cleaned up after 5 years of storage and helped my dad with a fence he is putting up. Can't wait to go back to work tomorrow so I can take a break, lol.

Re: What did you get done? 08/02 Labor Day edition
Saturday morning I woke up feeling rather adventurous. I decided to load up my wife and kids in the blazer and cruise about 5 hours to Millington, TN to the RA All Star Event. I thought what could go wrong, The A/C is working great right?......
Long story short we had a good time, BUT......the A/C did quit on us on the way home yesterday. On the bright side people seemed to really like the blazer when we were cruising around this weekend. And it ran great and everything worked fine other than loosing the A/C belt on I40 just west of Memphis. |

Re: What did you get done? 08/02 Labor Day edition
Went to chicago saw this truck on the way http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...75#post2341175
Helped a buddy pull a 64 Chevelle out of a shed that he is going to part out. Another friend of ours bought a 57 Chevrolet 1ton cab fender emblems and hood emblem for $350 from him. He has a 56 Chevy 2 door post Bel Air. Money so far for it will be somewhere around zero, because he got the car for free and he bought some floor and rocker parts. Oh and five cans of PB blaster. We pulled the Blue Flame 235 out of it to give to a guy who bought the old paint booth for the Vo Tech school I go to. I need to get the truck trim out of the shed that we got the 64&56 out of. Their is a bunch in there.

I got my 80 both running and moving this weekend
Forgotten just how awesome open headers sound at 5000 rpm I will be putting the box back on this next weekend, then tucking it away for the winter. I'll pull it back out next spring and put it on the road for a few weeks before I drop it off at the bodyshop to get the body fixed up

Re: What did you get done? 08/02 Labor Day edition
I had some friends help me lift the bed off my truck, and then I started trying to diagnose my brake issue... unsucessfully so far. The truck loses massive fluid amounts in no time, yet even after standing on the brakes in the yard, I can not find a wet spot nor has my fluid level gone down. None of my lines look excessively bad.
Anyway, on to the frame. The bed is off to change the gas tanks, though now that I've taken the bed off, I don't see how this really makes the tank removal much easier. In any case, while it's off I'm going to clean up the frame and coat it with some sort of rust encapsulator in order to prevent it from getting any worse between now and when I get to do a real resto. I'm also going to look for a bed that's in better shape than the one I took off. Anyway, here are a couple pics: Overall the frame looks better than I had feared. There isn't any rot, though there is an awful lot of scale. |
