Question Sierra Grande questions

I've been trying to find me an affordable 67-72 4wd truck for the last several months without much luck. Seems as if all the trucks I find are 2wd. The other night I stopped and looked at a 72 K10 GMC, but the owner wasn't home. I looked at the interior, and the Sierra Grande logo was on the glovebox, but there was no other indications that the truck was a Sierra Grande. Evidently somebody had dumped the logos when they repainted the truck, or the truck doesn't actually have this package.

So, how can I confirm the truck actually is a Sierra Grande? What exactly did a truck get when it was ordered with this package? Also, what do the 72 bucket seats look like? This truck had bucket seats, but I couldn't tell if they are factory because I've never seen a truck with them before.

I'm afraid they will be asking more then I can afford, because it has a fairly new paint job and the interior is in decent shape. Even with me being able to find some rust spots (rockers, cab corners, lower door corner, and lower front corners of bed), I can see it being fairly expensive. Guess it can't hurt to find out.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Sierra Grande wil be listed on glovebox door, I am unsure if its same as or is the option below Custom Deluxe. Either is Z84 or Z62, all these packages consisted of was some chrome and carpeting and color keyed dash and soft door panels and armrests and soft seat, etc etc, comfort and appearance items, not any hard parts like a/c or tilt or cruise or better engine or tranny, etc.

good luck

Sierra Grande was the Top of the line GMC. Comperable to the Cheyenne Super for the chevy. It should have the wood grain interior(door panels, glove box door, instrument bezel) Should have Sierra Grande emblems on both fenders and just forward of the marker lights in the bed. Came with stainless tailgate handle cover. Usually has a number of factory options, but don't believe they are required. Bottom line, you should check the glove box sticker and see if it matchs the VIN. You could also look for the build sheet.

Tom, not all of them. I have seen one original GMC that had a woodgrain dash, then the glove box door was black like mine. The whole truck was blue.
There seems to be little consistancy with GMC.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the help guys. I will have to look in the glove box when I go back over there in a couple of days. I do know it had the wood grain panels on the interior, I remember seeing that. Not seeing the Sierra Grande emblems on the fenders and bed threw me off though. I can't imagine somebody would toss those, they are kind of expensive.

I think they are glued on like the Longhorn ones. If that is the case, they probably fell off and 'ole boy crapped himself when he saw exactly what they do cost.

No they are bolted on with studs on the emblem. I needed a longer arm when I put the replacements on mine after the paint.

Cool

Well, I'm from Salina as well. I'm pretty sure I know the truck you are talking about. Kind of a maroon and tan two tone truck, sitting across from Bennetts? I haven't got a chance to go look at that one yet. If you get more info on it, let me know. It will probably be Thursday or Friday before I get a chance to check it out.

LOL! Well it doesn't look like a bad truck anyway. Ive seen it sit there for awhile. But you can also try the truck shop on broadway by West Side Bait, i know there are 2 Chevys sitting over there. I think 1 is 4x4. Good luck with your find!

The rear fender emblems on the sierra grande I had did not have a nut on the studs.(the front fender emblems did) The rear emblems had a little clip that popped into the hole in the bed and then the stud slid into that. The door panels, instument bezel and glove box door were woodgrain, but don't know that they all had that.

Me and a buddy checked out that 4x4 at the truck shop a few weeks ago. Someone had sprayed a cheap paint job on it (overspray on handles and other chrome), and when we got to looking underneath it was kind of scary. The body mounts had been welded to the frame, and the welds looked awful. The bumpers were also welded to the frame with the same type of crappy welds. That along with the gas tank behind the rear axles lead us to believe the truck had been placed on a later frame. Whats even more suprising, they were asking $7000 for the dang thing. You couldn't may be to drive it, I'd be afraid the body mounts were going to fall off.

That alone has me afraid the check out the GMC, it appears to be in much nicer shape. When I seen you were from Salina, I was trying to figure out if you owned one of the 7 or 8 67-72 trucks in my neighborhood. But based on the picture you don't. The 68 in my area isn't near as nice as yours.
