71 K20 Axle swap
I have a source for a full set of axles out of a late 80's 1 ton 4x4 fleetside (Dana 60 front and 14 bolt FF) , what would I have to do to get them to work? e.g. swap perches spring mounts, etc? Thanks.
P.S. my 68 has 71 running gear right now, and I am looking for added flexiblity when it come to upgrades, and I am also planning to go with a big block in the not too distant future.

Re: 71 K20 Axle swap
The 1 ton rear axle will slide right in place but you will need to get a conversion u-joint for the rear driveshaft. You might have to get the rear driveshaft shortened also.
The front axle will also slip right in place. I will let someone else who knows more about give info about the brake fittings and front driveshaft. I don't believe it will need a conversion u-joint. The front axle will gain your truck about 1" of lift. You might want to throw this question in the 4x4 discussion forum for more responses.

Not to question your expertese but I thought that the pad width was different on the 14 bolts? My buddy put one under his 71 1/2 ton and had to move the pads. Now I have heard that some of the 14 bolts had different pad widths, oh wait maybe that was it the 1 tons 14 will bolt up but a 3/4 ton 14 needs mods? Sorry I'm a little confused, I also have a dana 60F and 14 bolt and someday when I finish my other projects they find a home under the 71. Also good info on the 1" lift from the 60, I never knew that. Albie |

Re: 71 K20 Axle swap
one other thing is when and if you do need the rear spring perches moved or weld new ones on.. that will raise the rear about a inch also... i had that happen to me. so i just cut a inch outa my 4 inch blocks to level it out.. good luck
