I just bought a '71 Stepside

Well, i just bought a '71 stepside it was restored a few years ago but the owner didn't swap the gas tank out. does anyone know how much it will cost to relocate the tank to the rear? i want it under the bed with the filler under a flip up license plate. i seeen a guy in a build thread do it just wondering how much it will cost to do. i also seen where a guy on here sells them but don't remember where i seen it or who sold it. i want a 20 plus gallon tank. i want the tank removed because i want to go with larger tahoe seats that are power leather and heated. so i was just wondering about how much this would cost and how long would it take? i plan on doing it in hopefully a day when i come home on leave. i will post pictures when i get off work and can get on my pc. would it be better to bolt a frame for it or weld the frame for the fuel cell up? any info on this would be greatly appreciated and i will post pictures of the whole truck in a couple of hours

Re: I just bought a '71 Stepside

I got mine from LMC and it was about $200 plus additional hardware from Lowes. I also bought 25' of 3/8" fuel line from Summit and ran it to the pump.

Do a search for surplus blazer tank in this forum to get more info but here is the FAQ:

I noticed the Maine tags. Where will you be taking leave? You will definitely need help to get it done in 1 day.

I will be taking leave in Arkansas. My dad is going to go get the truck and bring it back to tennessee then i'll be driving it from nashville to Arkansas. Hopefully i'll have the 700r4 hooked up by then. Just depends on if my dad will take it to the transmission shop and how much they'll charge

Regarding the tank issue

I put seats from a 1998 or 1999 Silverado in my 69 K20, and although I did relocate the tank, whether the tank was in the cab or not would not matter with these seats. The seats hit the body of the cab above the tank and then they angle out.

Because of the way these seats sit in the cab, the tank wouldn't interfer with them. The Tahoe seats could be different though.

Re: I just bought a '71 Stepside

If you want it to fill from the license plate you may need to contact fuel cell guy that is a member here, I used the surplus Blazer tank and it sits too high against the bed supports to make the license plate fill work. If you were to lower the tank by building a frame I think it would be too low to the ground IMO.
