Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

OK...here are some more pics of the notch mock up install....

What we decided for this application, is that we didn't need the full notch, so what I did is cut is down a little....

More rivets to deal with....
-

-
Left side outer tacked in place...
-

-
Tacked the R/S outer on, then I used these pieces of T-angle (you might have this steel in your garage and not even know it...just look up ) as guides to install the inside plates even and square...

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

The inside plate wasn't fitting as I would like, so I marked and trimmed a bit to get it to fit nice and square.

I did it this way, rather than squeese the plates together with clamps and welding.

Because of this, I had to fill a gap in the frame. My mearsurement from the front of the notch to the back was consistant all the way thru.

Once capped, you wouldn't be able to notice, but I don't gop out like that

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

Put in about an hour or two at the shop this morning.....finished up the outer portion of the notch...

The R/S is obviously a mirror image of the L/S...a little clearance to fit just right....

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

Hello John,
That looks great! I really like your work. Outstanding attention to detail.
Yes, the lowering block kit (with new u bolts) has been ordered and should be here any day. I did not order the weld on axle seats. Sounds like having them will save you time and make the job easier. I will order them in the next 24 hours and have them shipped direct to your shop. So keep an eye out for a package. I will try to make it over to your shop with Justin soon to meet with you, look over the work and discuss more details.
Excellent job! Thanks.

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

Thanks Richard...hey man, don't worry about the axle pads...I can reuse the old ones.

I was going to build a jig, and relocated them to the 14bolt.

Either way, you know it will come out good.

See you soon....

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

Here a few more pics of the notch work......

Cutout the center section, and began the final inside plating....This notch is solid !! There is NO flex of the frame at all with this notch installed.

Sorry these are cell pics...forgot my real camera...

-

-

-

-

-

-
A little test fit, indicated that a little grinding of welds was in order....(I welded up ALL the center/inside seams before installing the inside plate)

I had to trim the frame in the same place to get a nice fit. Looking good! Those KP notches are well worth the $$$.

Hey chief,
Just got home and the 2" lowering block kit including U bolts and poly trailing arm bushings were sitting on my doorstep. I hope to get together with you to drop them off and look at your excellent work up close. Shoot me an email with the best time to do that. Keep truckin.....
