When I'm going down the road at higher speed my hood flexs a lot. It's tight and the fender/ hood rubber supports are all there. Is there a way to stiffin the hood to keep it from oil canning as they say? all metal supports appear to be there.

on the hood itself there are metal braces, under those braces there should be a soft rubber or foam comppound that helps to avoid this, check to see if yours is still there. BTW Hello from Nampa

Ya they have the rubber there also. Not sure what else to do. It's only on higher speeds, but it bugs me to see it flexing.
Well hello from Boise, just bought this truck a month ago and just love driving it around.
I'll be hitting the yards looking for a brake booster set up. A little at a time and maybe next spring it will be ready for paint!

I have a 69 Chevy that does the same thing. Mostly it's on bumpy roads. I got an old hood from a 68 Chevy and did some exprimenting after I posted a thread on "bowed hood."

First check to make sure your rubber pads are there and not worn and squashed or crushed where they don't support anymore. They may look good but may not offer much support. Try inserting some wood shims as a test. You can buy them at Lowes or similar and are for shimming doors, etc. Be careful not to bend or make a dent on the hood.

One of the suggestions was a 1" square tubing for reinforcement. Here's what I came up with. No welding, or cutting the hood and removable. I haven't used it yet but it definitely will stiffen up the center of the hood.

A few years back, I remember seeing a brace on a few trucks that was a piece of 5/16 or 3/8 rod flattened on the ends. It ran from side to side and went under the sheetmetal braces that run from front to rear of the hood, and had a rubber donut in the middle that fit in the area of the hood crease that runs down the middle of the hood. I wish I would have taken a pic of it. I am thinking of making one for my dad's 71 GMC. It is a three speed manual truck and when I let out the clutch, if it shudders a little, the hood shudders as well. I don't know if this part as dealer installed or what, but it looked well made and clean.
