Restored/Converted Van Tilt Pics For Ricks1971
Ricks1971: Here are some pics of a original van tilt that has been restored (completely disassembled, blasted & refinished) and also converted to fit & look like a true truck tilt, only exception being the lower splined shaft is 2 & 1/4"s longer then the truck model but a 69-72 intermediate shaft will cover that issue. Other goodies replaced with correct truck parts were the turn signal switch and harness (correct plug), turn & tilt levers, upper rubber dash grommet & the lower rubber firewall to column seal and the n. safety/b.up light switch has been moved to the correct lower truck position. Re: Restored/Converted Van Tilt Pics For Ricks1971
I do not have any before pics of this particular restored Van tilt column but here are some pics of it sitting next to an un-restored (similar to what it used to look like) factory truck tilt to give you the before and after idea. Cb

Re: Restored/Converted Van Tilt Pics For Ricks1971
Nice work on the van tilts!
A DIY kit would be something nice to offer. This way the column would be a drop-in. I have a van tilt that needs that kind of TLC. Thanks, Rich |

Re: Restored/Converted Van Tilt Pics For Ricks1971
red71cheyenne, chipflyer, RJGeister & Byrd: Thanks for all the comments, they are appreciated and I have added a couple more pics of a restored factory truck tilt that was just finished for a fellow in Martinez, CA. Frank's column is done in a custom PPG color that was tinted to perfectly match a green repro steering wheel. Originally all 71/72 factory truck tilt columns came installed in a satin black finish with matching black steering wheel. Thanks again, Cb

special-k: I have not had any luck with GM on these factory tilt parts for a couple of years now, but I would check out your local dealer as you just never know. I have found a few dealers to have disco'ed items still hanging around. The last time I took a list of column p/n's into Ron Tonkin Chevrolet, five out of the nine parts he said he would have for me in a week came back as zeroed out-not found. All I ended up getting a hold of were some indicator housings, indicator lenses, shift lever housings springs and some shift lever pins. Cb |

Re: Restored/Converted Van Tilt Pics For Ricks1971
nice work, someone needs to do a FAQ writeup on restoring these.... I know that truckandcarshop.com has a lot of parts in the catalog. I need to convert my van tilt to a floor shift truck tilt...
