Questions about engine swap
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. I have a 67 C-10 with a 292 and 3 speed manual transmission. The 292 is on her last legs and am looking to change out the engine. I am exploring many options, one of them being changing to a 350. If I change to a 350, what all do I also need to change (bellhousing, clutch, transmission, rear diff, etc.)? Thanks for the help,

Re: Questions about engine swap
The engine frame mounts need to be changed but I don't think that changed the position of the trans. The bell housing is the same but I think changing the clutch would be a really good idea. The radiator may have to be replaced as well.

Re: Questions about engine swap
Get an intact & running donor vehicle (free or real cheap) - mine was a '70's suburban. Full front crossmember, steering & driveline swap 350/350. New heads & stock rebuilt engine. Everything else "freshened-up" for safety. Power steering, brakes, rear-end.
Looks like an old stock turtle, but will surprise you. I'm a long ways from "done," if you ever get there, but having fun & learning. |

Re: Questions about engine swap
Thanks for the info so far. Anyone know of a good company to get a crate engine from. I have found many places online that sell racing engines, but no standard everyday drive down the road engines. Thanks again,

Re: Questions about engine swap
Just go to your GM dealer and order their crate engine if I remember right 290 hp 100,000 mile warranty may have to shop dealers to get best price I can get one here for 1511.00. Also you can check under GM preformance online for more info.

Re: Questions about engine swap
Get a Goodwrench Crate, Very dependable, and affordable compared to buying other crates, or remans, I would look into finding a good donor truck, for pullys, brackets, all that junk, and by the way welcome to the board fron southwest Virginia, got any pics?

Re: Questions about engine swap
dont bother changing that rearend, or at least not soon.
my dad told me about one of his buddys putting a 350 in a vega back in the day. had a 4 speed in it, and they beat the S*** outta it for a couple years, and never had a problem with the rearend aha so, if your gunna change it anyways, see if you can break it first.
