465/205 and a center console?
I will be building a cage along with full length fabricated center console in my Blazer. My question is regarding the linkages. How can I make these work at a different height then stock? The console will be approx 12" higher then the trans hump now. Any input? Thanks, Joey

Install an automatic tranny and go to a cable shift linkage or leave a hole large enough in the console to run through the gears with the existing shift lever.
The cage I can understand, the console thing not so much. Can you describe it more? Trying to picture it... |

Re: 465/205 and a center console?
Well first of all I would say that the 465 is not shifted with linkage. The shift stick is direct into the transmission. So you will have to have a hole large enough to shift through the gears, as stated above. Maybe you could fab a boot from leather or rubber to cover the large hole. The 205 is shifted with the help of linkage, but I would think your best bet would be to lengthen the shifter. Not mess with linkage. In all, two pretty large holes at that height in the console. It could be done easier than changing out the transmission to auto, if the 465 is in place. Most of the console would be booted though, I would think. Dont know how that would look..???

Re: 465/205 and a center console?
I am looking into the switch to an auto trans, wich that would not be a problem with the cable. I guess the 205 would need some attention. I will see if I can fab a longer linkage or something. I dont really want a huge hole in the top, although it would be more of a slot rather then a hole, I will have to figure that one out. Thanks for the input.

Re: 465/205 and a center console?
It would be ALOT of fab work, but you could create a bellcrank that pivots in the stock location and move the stock t-case rails. The actuated end on the becrank could then be linked to with mechanical rods or with a custom cable set-up (think of Atlas T-case shifters). The cable would be great for the 'pull' but not for the push (ever push a rope?), so you would likely need a dual opposed pull-pull setup where one cable pulls into a range and the opposite cable pull the other way. Would not be easy at all, but doable with the right time patience and skill combined.
Herb BTW - the above relates only to the t-case. The trans is a case mounted shifter in the top-loader trans cover. You could do similar bellcrank setups here, the all mechanical - look at import shifter linkages and the 05 up Mustang shifters for some ideas on this arrangement. I could work with the stock shifter rod cut down to a nub, but leaverage would be key. Last edited by herb101; 09-29-2007 at 10:30 AM. Reason: clarifying.... |

Re: 465/205 and a center console?
Just an update. I have decided to go with the auto/205 (any for sale here??), then I am going to make an electric actuator with limit switches to stop at each setting. It will have a selector style switch I think. I will keep this updated. Thanks for the ideas.
