Well here is a pic of the stereo I had in the GMC for a while;

I liked it alot. Better than mounting it in the glove box being that it is so hard to reach in traffic, or at 80MPH.
This is the best way I found to cut it;

If you look real close, you'll see in the upper left, I cut just a little too far. It was visable with the stereo in.
You can also still see some of the stock stereo hole still. The lower part was not visable, but where the knobs went, that was seen by me, but no one else noticed it. (I thought it was plain as day)
Would I do it again?
Without hesitation.
You just can't do this with the stock systems in these rigs.

This might not qualify as custom,but it works great and looks cool. It is a custom autosounds radio that fits in the stock hole.It looks like a AM pushbutton radio when the power is off. When the power is on it is an AM/FM digital radio that has preouts for amps it also has CD controls for the 6 disc changer hidden in the console.

I haven't finished mine yet, but I cut it, and kinda messed up just a tad on the corner, so I plan to have a piece of aluminum machined to fit in the stock rectangular indentation, and bolt it on, then have the exact size of the radio machined out of the aluminum for a billet look!

You can't really see it well in this pic, but the dash is cut and the cd player is surrounded by oak. Jeff.

Mine is basically the same as longhornmail's except that to cover those gaps, I added a plate made of black spraypainted aluminum. I think it helped when the theives tried to swipe it, too...they didn't bend the dash at all, thank goodness.

Here's my classic autosound. It's AM/FM cassette, but they also have CD versions available. I got this one from Chevy Duty, but Paul or Wes might also have them available. And you do not have to butcher your dash, something I would never do.

Let's see if MSN works. What I wouldn't give for a reliable pic hosting site!

Thumbs up

Stock Am radio in the dash and a hideaway headunit in the header. No one ever looks up 'til I turn the key and the head unit flips over. JC Whitney header panel
